I'm looking to get a new skimmer for my 90g. I like the water a little dirty in there for zoas, it's pretty heavily stocked though. I'm lost in all the new skimmers--skimz, aquamax, seaside, etc. would prefer an in body pump i guess, not too big. What would you get? Leaning towards an aquamaxx co-1...prefer to stay on the affordable side though.

I know a veteran who is selling an used Red Sea c-skim 1800 for $120 shipped. I have two brand new ones and have heard good things about it. Check it out and if interested I can give you his number.

The aquamaxx is the way to go IMO. I have a cone 2 on my 90g fully stocked tank and it's works perfect. They are quiet, have low electricity use and high air draw which is a plus for me in a slimmer

Thx, not a model that is attractive to me though. Looking for a newer low watt pump design closer to bubble magus type skimmer design. I have a precision marine rl150 right now, its not bad but has an old pump and the collector cup design is not the best. I've used various sizes bubble magus in the past, but mostly old designs.

Thx, I've heard good things about their construction. Co-2 might be overkill for me, but i'll consider it. I have some space in the sump, but seems like i'd prefer pump in body rather than on the side, hence co-1. Zoas, chalices and lps is all that's in this tank. The chalices seem really happy right now, but based on algae build up, seems like the rl-150 is not efficiently pulling out organics.

I do wonder why skimz has no stock anywhere...don't have any feedback about them though and have a couple good mentions of aquamaxx.

All it needs is a 30 watt pump to operate, but sure not as attractive looking as others that are more expensive. Self cleaning and not sensitive to water level are two other good features. Anyway, good luck.

Though I have not seen them in person, the Skimz look like a good skimmer. A friend in another state got one recently and was running a reef octopus for years and says they are great skimmers. The one con is that i read that some people have had problems with the impeller on the dc pump. I am actually waiting till they are back in stock so I can get a sn123 for my 50g. I believe they are out of stock everywhere because they are in the process of Rolling out there new series of skimmers. They have all been on sale lately and the new D series is starting to pop up

I use the JNS co-1 on my 70 gals and love it. It is very quite and compact easy to remove the cup for cleaning

I just got a bubble magus curve 5 for my 66g, very nice compact size. Very silent and skims well!!
Yeah i guess i should consider that model. Even though i think bms are reliable, i vowed to stay away from them. Got into a battle with seaside over a replacement part.

Well i pulled the trigger on the aquamaxx co1. A little disappointed in the size and design. The muffler is mounted very low on the skimmer, it fills up with water when i turn off my return pump to feed every day. Just stupid. Otherwise, it seems to skim great and is highly controllable otherwise.
