Hey so I have these weird acting stubby clowns. They swim all day and they float at night near the water line... they've been doing this for months now. I feed them crazy amounts and they won't host an anemone. Is it just the clown's personality or is something wrong? Do stubbies even host?
hence the name clowns.....
i have a true prec.. just chills near the water line.. seems like hes ready to jump or something..
but i guess thats how my clown acts... never really swam around my tank..
I've had my stubby clown for 4 years and she sleeps up at the water line every night. I have a big cup coral that she sort of hosts in, but I don't think all tank-raised clowns will host. It took a while for mine to get interested in anything.
I've always been told that tank raised clowns will host eventually... but I never see them do it. As far as sleeping at the top, maybe that's just where they're content at night. My true perc pair seems to like to sleep in the corner half way up the wall.
My two clowns sleep at the water line too, one on top of my magna float, and one against the grate of the overflow. It looks dead until turn on the lights, then it starts swimming.
I don't have stubbies but the 2 I have in my nano cube act really weird at night... The tank is in my bedroom & every night it's like they're jumping out... Like they jump outta the water & make a loud splash & scare me to death but they never actually jump OUT. They do this every night several times throughout the night & it still makes me jump 9 times out of 10!
They swim all over & never do this during the daytime.
My clown also sleeps up against the wall, bottom front corner of my tank. Just like lindsey said mine jumps up outta the water and splashes water out every single night. Always freaks me out n couldnt figure out what fish was doing it until yesterday when i caught my clown red handed jumping up.

Well you might want to cover your tank cuz my male jumped out and became a crispy critter a few weeks ago after doing this for months.
I don't think he meant to, just jumped a little to high out of the water. He and his mate were the only inhabitants in the tank at the time.
Same as my Gold bar maroon. Now hosting my sunny D on daytime. Well I call this Clown Sleeping Syndrome coz I don't know how to answer my wife question. LOL
