thanks gumbii...where do they do the local pick up at?..right now here are my lighting config....2 ati blue +, ati purple plus, ati aqua blue, uv sunpaq, and uv actic....thinking of swapping out the two uv and getting another ati purple plus and kz fiji purple...what do you guys think.....is that good for my 60 gal. mix reef....most of my SPS is on the top of the tank so will that shock them if I add in the KZ fiji purple?

I haven't gotten any negative issues with my KZ Fiji...but the growth is amazing.

Again my lighting is

3 x ATI Blue+
2 x Giesmann Blue+
1 x KZ Fiji Purple

Has any one tried the wave points bulbs?
didn't i answer that question on every one of my post on this thread...?

anyways... they're pretty good... well only the blue wave and coral wave bulb... red wave is teh wackestest... but the blue and pink bulbs are pretty good but to be honest, i rather pay more for a premium bulb... the wave point bulbs cost half the price of a good bulb, but also only last 6 months before you can visually see the spectrum change... so if you're tight on cash right now, get them... but if you want to only buy them once a year, get ATI or KZ or GS....

i downgraded from radiums... sorry, but i just see nothing but beneficial stuff from T5's... cut down on heat, electricity, and the spectrum is perfect to grow plants and corals... well, people have been using T5's longer in agricultural setups than we have in tanks... LED's still don't grow plants unless you have a billion LED's... but watev'skeez...
lol i just started thinking about this. My husband is an electrtician and we have come across quite a few people on craisglist who grow fatty tomatos with t5's muhahaha

i love going to hydroponic stores... you can get some awesome T5HO fixtures for cheap... for like a huge frag tank, it would rock... and cheap... they also have a bunch of plumbing supplies for our tanks as well... RO filters are cheap... plus, the people that work there are cool stoners...

I know you asked Gumbii but I have tested many different types of bulbs. In terms of the purple plus and the KZ there are small differences on the spectral points as well as watts per inch and Par. The best combo for a 6 bulb is as follows imo.

front
Blue +
purple+
blue+
blue+
Aqua blue special
blue+
Back

If you want a bit more of a bluer look you can swap bulb positions 5 and 6.

The purple + has slightly higher PAR values than the KZ and is $10 cheaper. Additionally I like the slight spectral differences of the purple plus.

lemme find the stellar net data I have. Its a fun program that lets me place spectral plots over each other from data I collect. The other stuff like watts per inch, PAR, power factor etc is at work and I am out for a few weeks waiting for my son to pop out. He is 5 days late...not even born yet and already teaching me patience.

not so much with he sps mostly lps(acans and chalices mostly), but also run short lighting cycle.. 5 hours... so that prolly helped.

Guys what would be best for a 24" deep tank lighting. Don't want to use M.H. lights. I'm putting together my new 48x24x24 and I'm not sure bout the lighting. I've read everybody post about lighting on this thread and now i'm confused. I want a mixed reef tank and good growth.
I like LEds but not sure bout them yet.
I'm down sizing from my 180 to a 120. have 3 MH and 4 PC on the 180 but not much growth.

Go with T5s, they will help you with the heat and power consumption. Plus they are able to grow everything (Softies, LPS, SPS). I have them over my tank (36x25x18) and they work great. Plussss, you will get the best colors if you choose the right bulb combination.

How many T5's would I need for that size tank. 48x24x24. also I have a Mag 9 for that tank will that be enough flow or should I use a Mag12?

I have a 48" 6-bulb T5 fixture, that should be plenty for you. If you want to you could go 8 bulb T5, but they are considerably more money and only a couple companies make them such as ATI. If you are going end caps and DIY then you should be alright, but as far as I remember only a couple companies make the 8 bulb configuration.

Are you talking flow in the tank? Or flow from the display to the sump? If it is flow with in the display that is a huge pump. If you are talking from sump to display, that will depend upon if you are running and overflow and durso stand pipe and how much it is set up to drain and what not. You should be fine consider I had only (I believe) a 1.5" drain hole and I had a mag 18 on my tank for a while. It sounded like a toilet, but it did drain it. I currently have less than the equivalent of a mag 7.5 on my tank and it is doing better than it ever has. However, as for in-display flow I have an MP40w on a 70g tank that is (36x25x18) so it is a considerable amount of flow in a fairly small space.
