What's The Best Live Sand To Use

I Will Be Setting A New Tank Of Here This Weekend And I Am Not Happy With The Live Sand I Have.

I Used That Bagged Up Supposed Fiji Live Sand. The Stuff Has To Much Shells And Other Sea Debris In It Gets To Discolored Over Time.

Should I Just Get It From The Lfs Stuff.

Any Reccomendations On A Place?

Depending on how deep of a sand bed you require?

I would recommend crushed coral bottom layer 1 inch the 2 inches top layer of Aragamax Sand This super-fine sand (0.2 to 1.22 mm grain size)

Why the crushed coral?

More bug's to run around on the bottom of your sand bed.
I have bugs and small starfish in the crushed coral layer keeping it clean.

you can get the sugar size sand, this way there is no shells.

I hate the sugar sand. It blows around too much with any current at all. Once I tried the broken shell-sand mix for a base then the plain white sand on top but all the shell pieces work their way to the surface and turn dark, almost black.

I bought the plain white live sand from my lfs and also from Dr FS. Its great!

yeah i have both problems, i have a mixture of pre bagged stuff and LFS stuff and all the shell pieces come up and the rest blows all over the place, and the shell pieces turned black. I scoop them out with a kitty litter scoop.....lol

crush coral big no no , can you say nitrate factory? Just use aragonite it come in differnt sizes althoug most of the live sand varietys are of the sugar size, but what you can do is buy one or two bags of the sugar sized live sand then put a more courser aragonite sand on top, the bags of live sand you used will seed the aragonite on top, let me know if you need any courser arag i have 80 lbs brand new still in the bags

If Paul does not get the sand Omar, let me know. I need little bit for my display tank. Over the years mine has slowly decreased due to siphoning/cleaning.
