Its hard to keep the temp down with this heat! So I have two fans blowing in my sump if the temp gets higher than 78, then my controller turns on my chiller at 80.

Hmmm I just noticed my temp is staying around 78.6 to 79. I now have Acrylic.... I think acrylic helps insulate... keeps it more stable...

Gota say love the Acrylic :)

this reminds me. I need to build a breakout box for the apex and add actuators to my stand so that it opens the doors to the sump and turns on a fan at 80

What's the hottest it can be before coral star dying?

carribean coral have been known to grown in 85-87'F water. but for your captive reef a temp change of greater than 2'F per day and anything could die.

and the higher the temp, the lower dissolved oxygen for the fish too.

My old take made it into the 90's a few times before I got a chiller. It didn't seem to mind.

I call absolute BS on the temp swing changes. When diving through thermoclines the temps can vary by many degrees in an instant. Salinity changes can be the same way. Also, I've dove in water in Bonaire that was 84 and the coral wasn't dying.

Don't over think this folks.

corals in the wild are not the same in captivity. in the wild they are use to the swing nature throws at them. in our tanks they get acclimated to stable or close to stable temps. i myself let my tank run warmer in the hotter months and run cooler in the cooler months. highest my tank has been 85 lowest 72.

I have two 250 watt halides on my 90 and my temp goes from 78 to 82. When my halides are off the temp is pretty stable at 78.
