So I picked up 2 yasha gobies at RAP on Saturday. After I acclimated them I dropped them in the tank, they both seemed fine, albeit scared. I turned off all the lights and let them be. They were doing fine when I checked the tank at 3 am.

This morning as I was walking past my tank, I spooked one and he darted into a rock and hit his head pretty hard. He had a large abrasion on his head and ultimately died a minute later.

I haven't seen my other yasha at all. Absolutely no sign of it. I checked around to see maybe it might have jumped, but there is no evidence of that. My tank is only 8 gallons so it shouldnt be very hard to find the fish. Could it be possible it might have died over night and the clean up crew took care of it? Wouldn't there be at least a part of the body? The yasha was about 2 inches long. I currently have some snails, hermits, 1 cleaner shrimp, 2 porcelain crabs, and a tiny cleaner goby. Where could it be?

I've been waiting to get these fish for so long, it's a shame I'd lose both in less than 24 hours.

It could be hiding. I didn't see my yasha for over 2 weeks after I put it in. It also depends on their temperament. Mine hid a lot even with the pistol shrimp. Also, another factor is the initial health of the fish. When fish are transported in mass and from day to day, especially for the show, they can get sick. I bought a sunburst anthia from Coral Oasis and it went straight to QT because there were a ton of fish with it. So far it's doing good, but time will tell.

It's very possible if it died that the CUC took care of it... We bought a firefish who disappeared 2 days later (in a 29 gallon). He was there in the morning and gone without a trace that evening. CUC (carnivorous) is only 3 nassarius snails and 2 peppermint shrimp and apparently they made short work of it. Sorry about your first goby and I hope the other is just hiding somewhere. :(
