My opinion, I would go with the 36 not only because of the size but the depth of the tank. Hope others help out.

you would need the 36 LED kit. we use a simple formula 15 square inch per LED if your tank is (36" x 15")/15 you would need 36 LEDs. In addition, there are other factors like optical degree, position of LED, depth of tank and so on.

I was thinking the 36 but I was hoping people would say the 24 so I could get a new controller to go along with the LEDs. I'll see what others say though.

i think we talked about this.. but I got a 120 watt LED panel... 2 to 1 blue to white ratio... still has 19 months left on its warranty through Fish Collections in yorba linda.... should be perfect for your tank... and you don't have to solder and worry about frying things...

Yes we did talk, but I like the idea of dimming and I can't hang stuff because my tank has a bunch of scratches around the top that the canopy hides. Thanks though.

Yeah that's probably what I am going to do.
there is a group buy that is happening over at reef central if budget is a big thing to you. the last day is june 30th. you would need some electrical skills and a heatsink to go with that kit. A diy enclosure with a nice splash guard should also be considered.

Do you have a link to that?
