Curious if anyone has ever encountered a sudden stop of magnesium absorption?

For the past 3-4 years I’ve been dosing between 20-25cc of mg to keep it stable around 1450. Within the last few months I’ve noticed a drastic stop in mg usage. Couple months ago was surprised to test it >1600. Dropped the dose in half at that time and the last couple weeks have been back closer to 1500 but only dosing 6cc/day where it remains stable.

Tank is a heavily stocked mixed reef and I try to maintain:
Mg: 1450
Ca: 420
kh: ~8

Normal daily doses from doser:
Mg: 22cc/day down to 6cc/day for the last 2-3 weeks
Kh: 18cc/day no change
ca: 20cc/day no change

Lines and containers were inspected and appear to be functioning as should.

I have not really added anything to the tank lately nor have I switched salts, its been same bucket for almost a year so I’m just curious on if anyone knows why this is happening. Verified with 2 diff test kits.

It happens for sure. I would turn the doser off till it reaches the low 1400s. I don't test magnesium enough as I just noticed my tested in the lower 1300s. Oops
What salt do you use? I wish Redsea blue bucket had higher Mg.

Brightwell neomarine.

Never in the last 10yrs has it happened to me. Thought it was odd. Everything in tank looks fine, just kinda random to find mg so high.

With ten years under your belt it's probably not this but do you rotate/mix all the salt in the bucket. Maybe a concentrated batch of Mg didn't get mixed up.

What are you feeding the tank? Magnesium comes in many forms, mostly in food and other additives.

I actually don’t mix rotate the salt bucket. Did not know it was a thing. I will consider doing this if it doesn’t remain stable

I only feed frozen brine and mysis. Occasional dose of acropower but have always done the same.

Not quite on topic, but I would feed other foods as well, as I'm not a big fan of mysis and brine as main staples for fish. Quality pellets and frozen foods like LRS or Rod's are much better than mysis and brine. Your fish will thank you for offering them better foods.
Certain salt brands should be mixed (rolled) in the buckets before use, settling is a thing.
