Two weeks ago my tank was doing great and all of the sudden things started to fall apart! I feel like in this hobby it is just a matter of time before you encounter a real heart breaker! I am trying not to let this mishap get to me but i am considering selling my display and livestock! last week i noticed my 140 dollar Bleeding apple scoly had a rip in the flesh, so i transferred it to my other tank to hopefully recover and get away from the aggressor. Two days later it was gone! Then, my yellow coris wrasse (the one that i thought ate my scoly) some how jumped through my cover and dried up on the floor! He was probably depressed knowing he costed me 25 bux and killed a 140 dollar scoly! So i figured o well stuff happens. Then i noticed my cadlights bio pellets reactor was clogged. I took it out and throughly cleaned it, put it back and added 1 cup because it looked like they were getting smaller and it was time to add some. Two days later all hell breaks loose! THE MAJORITY OF MY SPS STARTED STNING! Long story short i lost my favorite piece, BEAUTIFUL RED DRAGON colony that i traded from a fellow reefer on here, and i lost about 5 other beautiful colonies including a basketball sized setosa!!! CAN ANY ONE PLEASE MAKE SENSE OF THIS? Did taking the pellets offline for a hour or so spike my phosphate? It was .01 before and then i checked it after my tank took a dump and it was .10. So know i am looking for expensive knowledge.... Also, i am looking to see if anyone is interested in purchasing this COMPLETE TANK. If so pm me and if the deal is right for both of us then i will get rid of it. If i get lowballers i will just keep it and try get colonies/info to replace the old from my fellow reefers. thanks!

RIP!

THE RED DRAGON WHEN I FIRST GOT IT.

MY TANK BEFORE THE CRASH/WHAT EVER IT WAS!

THANKS ALL!

That sucks to hear... :(
I hate hearing about stuff like this but I think its all part if the hobbie. I believe its possible the pellets had a hand in the crash. I know Aaron at sps coral had his entire in store system go down due to pellets, but I believe that was just the brand.
Of course I could be wrong, there are alot of people that use them with no issues. Perhaps adding another cup caused the problem. IDK.
Anyway, I say dont give up. Just relax have a beer and step away for awhile, than continue on continuing on

Thanks for the input! The pellets were dr tims pearls to add some evidence to the crime... Who knows! i have been running these pellets for over two years with no problems! Between this and taking anatomy/microbio classes this summer i am ready to drink my self into a coma! lol

why do i spend money on it?

because i enjoy vegging out in front of it
because i really enjoy the company of the friends I have met since joining the hobby

the 2nd one is the big one. I have met some really great people who i would remain friends even if i didn't have a tank, or if they didn't have a tank.

i DO live in fear of a crash, but i also accept that it seems to be part of the hobby. it's like when you hop on a motorcycle. it's not a matter of IF you'll go down, but WHEN.

I do take solace in the FACT that I know my friends would help me rebuild after a crash.

Sorry to hear abt ur bad experienced. I was in the same boat as you were abt 3-4 months ago. I bought a total of 13 marine culture sticks and they were ranging from $45 - $60 a pop. I lost all of them due to rtn'ed. So frustrated and pissed off that I was nearly broke down my tank.

Since that mishaps, I have switch gear to the designer zoas...easier to care and less headache for my case.

Just hang in there bud!

I guess i just dont have the reefer friends/experience that you have. What attracts me to the hobby is the chase, it like trying to get the hot girl that wants nothing to do with you! As for the whole riding analogy "its just a matter of time before you go down", i dont really believe that! I have been riding for 8 year and had multiple bike/riding a 2014 ducati 1199 now and have never been down (many close calls though, knock on wood), alway plan a exit route and never get to relaxed!

The reason i didnt post a price is because i am just considering it and if the right offer hits the table i will act on it. I am just considering all factors as of right now. thanks!
Not to pile on but if your going to sell price is required. Also a thread in the marketplace

It is just so bad when you spend thousands on a tank and thousands more on livestock and your tank takes a poo in a matter of two weeks and you just have to sit back and watch it crash. If we all had a crap automobile that costs us thousands to up keep a year i am sure that we would trade it in, but the shinny lights and bright colors attract our brains to invest uncountable dollars into our systems for some reason! lol

Hah, another one! Sorry to hear man. Heart break and frustration I am there with you. I am not sure we have any senior reefers without heart break stories around here. Anyway, I am not going to analyze anything because it looks like you know what you are doing already and to be honest I am not sure we have answers for every problem in reefing. I hope you can walk away from the issue and come up with a decision you will be happy about. Maybe 1 day you will come back and show off your new reef :)
