I think its been suggested so just in case the food causes the skimmer to go crazy and over skim... if not then I don't see and issue leaving it on... I do turn mine off when I feed my nems squid because it does go awol... not so much when feeding pellets..

My input on canister filters is that they do a great job cleaning the smallest 'visible' particles, but they also trap a lot of organics which tend to build up and release a lot of phosphates if they are not properly cleaned out.... thus giving those diatoms more nutrients to thrive...

I dunno of any reefers that uses canisters anymore...

seems to be good protein skimmers, reactors, live rocks and refugiums are the popular filtration methods

not that i think of...yes they are both on while i feed....do i gotta turn them off??

instead of posting a quote per person... click on the multi off button on each post you want to quote... then on the last one, click on quote, and that will make a multi quote..

Yes especially when u have a canister filter u need to turn them off while feeding otherwise leftover food gets trapped in and raise up ur phosphate and nitrate levels

You should buying more cleaning crews as well at least 4 nasarius snails and a dozen hermits.....wait for half hour after feeding to turn on filter and skimmer....it might be flow as well....do u have good flow in the tank

i would get rid of your canister, get a reactor, use rowaphos, throw in some mexican turbo snails and be done with it. conch snails keep my sand nice and white too.

Please do not get Margarita snails. They do not adapt to reef water temperatures that we keep our tanks at. They dwell in temperate conditions.

Your best bet, as others have mentioned, which I will echo, is to limit introducing nutrients, and to prevent dead spots where food / stuff can get stuck. Also, what type of water are you using to mix salt and/or to top off?
