Seeing a lot of non locals posting on SCR. Let's hear why we are on the leading edge of tech and high end corals in the US
I realize we have more opportunities for the best coral.. because there so many more stores around but why does it seem that we usually have "been there and done that" in this hobby?
Let's hear it.what's your opinion?

Because we're the 2nd most populated city in US, that's why we have so many posting here. Just my 0.2

+10000000...

Seriously though I think its all of the above and the members. We all tend to help each other out when we can and word gets around. Most people want a place where everyone is like family.

+1 to this.

I was on R2R much more before I was on here. One day I decided to start posting my questions on both sites and everyone here was quick to help and answer my questions and on R2R I would get zero responses sometimes. I just feel like this community is closer ("smaller"?) and more willing to help someone out. Seems like some of the other sites are just too big to care about any one person =). This is just my take on it.

Ya this is true. I would sometimes post questions on all 3 sites (r2r,RC, and SCR), and Scr is the only one I would get answers from.

This is the way I see it.

RC - Large member base to either buy or sell corals/equipment to/from. But the mods have chased away almost all the og members and it just isn't what it was say 10 years ago.

R2R - Only good for seeing some amazing corals as it's mostly a market place for high end signature pieces. Even if you are part of the "click" over there, it would never be the comradery that peeps on SCR have because here we actually do hang out and build on the friendships created online. Where as on R2R, it's more like
"Hey Jim, when are we hanging out?"
"Oh Bob, it would be nice but you're in Florida and I'm in Idaho"

and all the other ones such as Worldwidereefers, 1Reef, The Saltwater reef and Gumbilicious reef never really got off the ground IMO.

Now SCR is the perfect balance of highly intelligent yet modest reefers willing to help at the drop of a dime combined with a good number of smart a$$es that can bring the brigher side to almost any situation just to keep the forum light and airy. That along with Mikee opening the forum to members in far away lands is a genius move not only to increase revenue but also to bring more notoriety to us as the great bonded community that we are : )

Well put Jesse. I'm the type that thinks virtual communities should be a channel to real life relationships. I've met so many of you great people and feel so lucky to have done so. And I agree we have a great balance of reefing knowledge and edgy, fun-filled malarkey. I miss the sump for the occasional "S**t just got real!" situations but I feel lucky and grateful for the community we are.
