I think the Ethernet port is just there to hardwire the extender to the attenaes your plugging into the wall. Most routers go what, 50-60ft without walls? So if you had a longish house you could have your router on one side of it run an Ethernet cable through the attic or something down the wall then out to this and you get a strong wifi signal on that other side of the house. It's just an extra set of bunny ears right? It's an extender not a converter. My understanding at least.

Edit: you should be able to easily run an Ethernet to and from your apex and computer(apex recommends this anyhow)

I'm pretty sure that is just a range extender that boosts wifi signal. You would still need a wireless adapter from the apex. (I'm not the best with tech stuff but that is my understanding of what you bought. I use a net gear wireless adapter

That looks like the one i use. Does it have two? One plugs into the router and wall. The other plugs into the wall on the same electric circuit and you can plug your apex into it. It boosts signal but also acts as a hardwire ethernet port. If you only have one it will only plug into your router and boost signal.

It only has one Ethernet port so it may not work

I looked it up. It says it's to plug in a blue ray or gaming console. I'll try it and see

But overall how many of you have had luck without hardwiring an apex?

Specifically when you call Neptune and the first question is......are you hard wired. We all know wifi connections are spotty. Why take the chance. Spend your money on a 30' Ethernet cable.

Not all wireless is spotty. My wifi is solid.
Its not so much that its spotty but if one of those packages thats being transmitted gets dumped, there you go bricking an expensive equipment. Why take that chance? I hardwire both of my apex...

I don't want to pull my carpet up or go through the ceiling. I would think most people would be on wireless

Although wireless is a good option for convenience, wired should always be the first choice if you can get away with it.

Powerline adapter would not be wireless. I have used it for IP cameras and would work better than wireless imo for this situation.

So what about when you need to update it???? I am told this can not be done wireless. Should I get a long Ethernet cable to use for the firmware updates??

I have that same extender and it works well for my apex. I have my Apex jr in the garage out back and my netgear gaming adapter wouldn't reach my router which is in front of the house. I added this extender in the garage along with my gaming adapter and now I can view my Apex Jr online. This is for my QT tank so if/when I have to update the firmware, I'll just bring it inside and hardwire it. The ethernet port are for any devices that are not wireless. So technically, if the extender is close enough to the apex, you can use the extender to bridge to your router.
