bub it's already three so if you take the dog years equation and match it to larger tanks I'd say it's 21years old. :)

really though, how many reef tanks on this forum are over three years old would you guess? I might guess more of them than not are -under- three years old, so when you eclipse that in one gallon it would indicate things are on track for the long haul.

Forecasting demise/old tank syndrome is very helpful in pico reef design, if you have anything to add as to what to watch out for that hasn't already been addressed I'd listen for sure as I predict these can live as long as any 100 gallon reef, a tall order for sure but I'm three years into it and I can already name two local 100 gallon tanks that got given up on after a year due to costs and algae!

hi all, haven't been in for a few weeks and thought I would post some updates. I included a few pics as well

One interesting change was that the frogspawn got stung by sweepers from a lobophyllia, a little bit uncommon for lobos, and this frogspawn is glued up under a micro ledge to where if I tried to pry it off, to replace it, it would tear down the ledge so I've had to leave it in place. I was just going to let it get covered with coralline and become part of the substrate, but if you can believe it there's enough tissue left in the center it's growing back in just a couple weeks! so the next time you have a dead, stung coral, don't toss it too quick as I was 100% sure this one was dead. I learned about coral regeneration abilities from this little guy

Wow. Now that's definitely a unique little reef tank! Pretty cool! So do you have to constantly be trimming and fragging your corals since I'm sure they start to grow over each other?

honestly there's not too much work like that, it's more about regular water changes to prevent algae since it is not skimmed. cleaning coralline off the curved structure is second most annoying task

these pics show better detail than my vid because my video-to-pc skills don't convey high def very well. I think Im about to pay someone to come shoot my vase with an hd cam and then post it up for me:aqua:
