I think its lace rock? I bought a buttload of rock from a guy who ran it in a fish only for many years. I would love to use it but I'm worried about it causing problems later. You can see the nice stuff next to this rock.

Is the shells stuck in the rock? Might not be lace if it is. Rocks do come in different colors. When rocks are white means they went thru a cleaning process before selling.

I think the rock is just wet from the mild acid wash I did.

So I guess its ok to use?

i would not use it at all.. unless you test if it leaches any phosphates or heavy metals... but still... it's a risk you're taking IMO...

unless you're doing fish only... then who cares....

If memory serves, Lace rock is quarried in Utah. It also did have metals, at least back in the day. I have actually seen rust on Lace rock. Personally I wouldn't use it for anything other than fish only. IMO, not worth the risk.

If the person had them In A fish only tank it is almost certain they used copper in the tank. I saw you did an acid bath I wonder if that takes care of it?

Probably beating a dead horse here, but you don't want to use the lace rock on a reef system. I have seen copper veins in lace rock many times.

Thanks for the good ideas. I'll put some of the rock in Rodi or fresh water and test for copper and phosphate. I probably won't use the lace rock as I think I have plenty. It's just so pretty.

I think my next tank is going to be a minimal rock system. I'm thinking a 120 with like 50 lbs of rock all coming off the back panel. Should look cool
