Umm, fans are the way to go, just got to find the right fans with theright BALANCE of noise level and CFM (air movement)
The more air that moves the more noise you will have to deal with.
So, look at those to statistics on the fans that you are considering.
But even as loud as my fans are, they are a necessity, as without them, my chiller would be on full time now a days.
And by the way, having that chiller is a life saver, literally.
I have been in the hospital for the last couple days, and between the AC III and teh chiller, I could figure out how the tank was doing with just a couple simple questions to my daughter.
(as the water temp goes up, lights turn off, so just asking her what lights are on, tells me the temp, and at no time durignthe alst couple days did my lights go off, and my chiller was only on for about an hour total time for the last two days.)
Anyone that has a reef tank needs to set up temperature control measures. Not doing so, (after knowing that the area they are in, and the ambient temps that they have to deal with) is a true gamble
