Yeah for that price it's gonna be a JR. Thats what I have and it works great if you only need 4 outlets. You can always add to it later

I'm pretty sure if you get a break out box for your apex it will work as your ATO.

Is that a cheaper rough to go then a stand alone ato or just more efficient but sounds better than a stand alone ato

The break out box is $40. Two switches are like 10-15 each. Also the box will let you hook up leak detection sensors

I think getting the Full Apex is best choice.
I think it depends on your needs. What are you going to use it for? Do you need a ph probe? How many things are you planning on controlling and monitoring? The nice thing about getting the JR is you can always add to it later if you need to. My set up is a JR with an EB8 and pm1.

If you can afford it the full apex gives you a lot for the money

Yes I agree about it depends on your needs. But you also realize this hobby is like crack, most people what more. Kinda like let me start with a jbj Nano cube and after so many upgrades to a 150 gallon. Or I will never get into sps only softy tank...... man I have to dose my 150 gallon sps tank.

Apex is for back up and not just turn on and off lights. I turn off my doser in case my alk get stuck and ph goes sky high. Some people use 2 ph probe for cal reactor. The 0-10v can control pumps and LED. I add one module to control another tank but Apex jr can only add I think 7 module max. I have enough wires and plugs and prefer not to have so many modules and usb cords if I can help it.

But again it's what you need it for and I always plan for the future so I don't spend more.
