Wtb clams

That’s the awesome thing about clams, their mantles are so variable, so there’s no specific color that’s better than another. The best way to view clams is from above and make sure you use a daylight spectrum, because clams under blue are kind of pointless. All species in the hobby are from shallow waters, so they really do shine in more natural lighting.
Derasas come in various colors, most being gold, green, etc, but there are some that have a more solid color like blue or green, which makes them unique. I personally love odd colored mantles, just pick a healthy clam with active growth in the shell.

Yes. Just make sure you can provide 300+ micro moles of quality light, but be prepared to provide more light if needed. Each clam will be different in their lighting needs. The key is making sure there’s new shell growth constantly. For anyone interested in clams or are new to clams, I would suggest picking up James Fatherree’s book on clams.

Target feed with a kessil and an IV bag of calcium lol.
I kid, but light is really all they need even tiny. just make sure they don't get knocked over too much (and so not getting expected light), that was my issue when mine was about that size, smaller than the conch so it got bulldozed almost daily until i got things terraformed better.

Don't target feed clams, it's completely unnecessary. They get all of their nitrogen through you feeding your fish, fish poo, etc... They can also take in N & P directly from the water, but they do require a lot of light. If you're not seeing new (white) shell growth at the upper margins of the shell, you simply are not providing enough light. A long time ago, some idiot said that smaller clams had to be fed in order to survive, this is scientifically false and has been studied several times. Clams can receive over 100% of their nutrition from light alone.
I've moved my clam from the middle of the tank to the bottom -- it's doing ok but not as good as before. Unfortunately, I don't have a PAR meter but I suspect that he's currently under 170 par with 2xRadion XR30 G6 Blue running at 80%.
Flow: that's also another consideration. Being in a SPS BB tank, I got 4 wavemakers (2xMP40s, 2xWAVs) blasting the tank at 90%+ You gotta be extra sensitive and not have any direct flow hitting it.
Other than that, clams are super easy to keep...I might be adding a big Deresa to the 175g soon with all this talk! ha

Ali usually has nice clams, mostly from ORA, but I've seen some awesome looking wild maximas from Australia that looked like squamosas. Ali even mentioned to me that they were listed as squamosas when he got them, but were clearly maximas. They had that really nice "blotching" that squamosas have sometimes, but looked like the Red Sea versions too.
