My Jebao DC9000 is having issues (after approx 8 months usage). For the time I've had it, I've always run it on setting 4. About a week ago, I decided I wanted more flow so I increased to 5. Well, tonight I started hearing weird noises (gurgling) coming from my system. Tracked the issue down and it seems the pump has begun to shut itself off after about 20 seconds only to turn itself back on immediately.

Upon setting it back to setting 4, the problem appears to have gone away... but I've come to the realization that it's time to get a more reliable pump. I'd like to do this ASAP (e.g. before xmas) since I'm not sure how long my current pump will continue to operate. Hoping someone has this http://www.marinedepot.com/Reef_Oct...m_Pumps-Reef_Octopus-CV25153-FIWPEPOT-vi.html in stock. As you can see, marine depot currently does not.

If no one has the above, but has a jebao dc 12000, I'll take that as a stopgap for the moment until I get the reef octopus and keep it as a backup in case of pump outage in the future.

Thanks,
Bob

p.s. has anyone had a similar issue w/ their jebao return pump? I've taken it out and cleaned it (including pulling the impeller). I've also peeked inside the controller to see if there were any loose wires (there were none). And finally, tried plugging it directly into wall socket instead of through power strip. None of these things made it stop "rebooting" every 20 seconds on setting >= 5.

p.p.s. I'm located in Tustin and work in Newport Beach

p.p.p.s. Do not want used items... brand new only please

Have you looked into fluval? I have an sp6 and am very happy with it. Amazon ships then with 1 day shipping.

If you absolutely have to choose between a Reef Octopus and a Jebao, then go for the Reef Octopus. They have a warranty. But like other people said, there's better out there like the Fluval SP2 or SP6 or even the Water Blaster line from RO.

Does reef octopus still sell water blasters?

To the OP, there's been lots of issues with those DC pumps from all brands. (Jebao, reef octopus, waveline). They are all the same pump, just different colors. If u are looking for reliability, look at the Fluval sea pump.

I think they still do. But they don't use titanium shafts, which I broke on my wb10000. The SP6 is the way to go.

Although, I'm still pretty happy with my Laguna 2400 at half the price!

If you go with the Fluval, go with the SP4. It is rated at 1800 LPH which should be very close to the DC9000. The DC9000 is 9000 lph and the SP4 is 8500 lph. I will guarantee the the SP4 will outperform the DC9000 as the manufactures overestimate their capabilities.

Also RO's DC pump is no longer made by Jebao and I have not heard any negative issues since the switch.

Actually, I have not looked into the fluval pump. Checked it out and looks like a good pump. I do, however, like the speed control available w/ the DC pumps.

I know... it's my primary store and I intend to call him. However, AFAIK, the stuff he can get by 5pm comes from marine depot. As they are currently out, I figured I'd post on the forums as well to see if any other local stores carried it and have it in stock.

if you want one i know sps coral store has it
want one what? fluval?

Just like a DC pump on a skimmer, you'll never need to adjust the flow if you size your pump right to your tank's needs for flow. I've probably touch my old Jebao controller twice and that was to turn it up to the max flow. There's very little need for tinkering. So don't let that one detail drive you away from a good pump.

I went from a Jebao DC12000 pump to an AC Laguna Max Flo 2400 and the Laguna is running at it's max because it's perfect for my tank.

Yeah, that's a good point. Once dialing it in initially, I only adjusted my jebao once (and it broke ;))
