PilotWolf gave me some of this cool looking stuff which he thought night be a sponge but it definitely isn't and now we're very interested in finding out what it is!

It's very hard to tell by the picture above but it almost looks like some type of cool looking macro algae by it's growth shape/pattern, but it's composition is definitely not like macro but more like soft coral or anemone tissue or something... it's slimy and almost reminds me of fish eggs in a way. I took it out of water completely to examine it better and it collapsed in my hand like a pile of slimy goo but then back to it's shape when put back into the water. It's sort of travel transparent, not completely opaque, kinda like fish eggs. The only thing I do know is I'm 99% sure it's NOT a sponge!

Does anyone have any idea what it could be now that we have a picture and a more detailed description of what it's like?
Any chance it could be a chili coral or something like that? I don't really think so because of it being slightly transparent.

99% sure it's not that after looking at lots of pics online... when people held it in their hands out of water, it kept it's shape and still looked like a plant... this doesn't. It's more like a limp anemone or something when I hold it out of water. And most pics also had a very defined plant stem. This doesn't.

Hook me up with a frag =P
Idk where you're located but if you wanna drive out to Yucca Valley, I'll share what PilotWolf gave me...and if you're closer to the South Bay, hit him up... I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing some with you as well! :)

Bummer thought he had it
Yeah that would've been awesome but no... this doesn't have polyps like a carnation coral does. Like I said, it really reminds me of some type of anemone and kind of reminds me of caviar by it's texture (for lack of a better word)

Well I think it is some type of weird, cool looking algae. I took it out of the cup I have it in (which makes it hard to see very well) last night and really got a good look at it....
Here are some pics:

Also, nobody on RC could ID it either but a chick that works at the LA Museum of Natural History said she will give me a definitive ID if I send her a piece of it so she can look at it under a microscope. Cool! :)
