Someone posted this on my local LA forum and thought I'd share it with y'all since there's been a lot of discussion about hippos being kept in nanos and picos and HLLE.

As terrible and sad as it is about this fish and others like it, the fact is that it's happening again and again and I think this is a great idea to hopefully educate prospective buyers and hopefully curb at least some of these situations from happening as often.

I am currently working on a job in Corpus Cristi and had some time today to visit a local reef store. I'm not trying to start a debate or argument but I found this very interesting. I only had my iPhone to capture the picture so it's not the greatest picture. The fish actually looks worse in person. The fish below is a blue hippo tang (I had to ask the owner). Hopefully the writing on the paper is legible. Once again I'm not trying to offend or *censored* anyone off, I just found it crazy and figured I would share it.

Sorry, I just looked on the computer and saw how blurry the pic was. Maybe this one is better. If not it's much easier to see on a phone when you zoom in.

This is what it says:

No, there is no such thing as a Zombie Fish. I bet you are wondering why I look like this. I was given to GCReef by my previous owner after being kept in too small of tank. I have what is called Head and Lateral Line Errosion (HLLE). This disease is not contagious or fatal but it makes me look like I'm rotting away, hence my name. HLLE can be brought on by a variety of conditions including poor water quality, poor nutrition, or enviromental stressor (such as being kept in to small of a system). My caretakers at GCReef believe all threeof the above factors contributed to the development f my extreme case of HLLE. They are slowly working to heal me but it is a long process. To ensure that your fish don't end up lookng like me please pay close attention to the top left corner of my tank. Please make sure you can provide the proper size aquarium for tang an other large fish like me. Also keep in mind to give a varied diet of meaty and vegetable matter to any tangs you have. Knowing fish care requirements and compatibility with your setup long before purchasing them will go a long way in insuring your fish live long and healthy lives.

Le zombie tang. How much are they asking for it?
NFS. It is an educational thing to try and teach people why it's important to have the proper conditions for these fish if they are wanting to buy one. And supposedly they are trying to help the fish and cure it from being a zombie. I wonder what size tank it's in now.

Too bad every lfs can't get a poster child (I mean poster fish) like this before Finding Nemo 2 comes out. You know there's gonna be a lot more Dori's that are bought and put into tiny tanks after that!
