So it was popping up even when all the tangs were initially in the new tank? If it only popped up after you rehomed a certain batch, then that could help you figure out which one it was.

What tangs did you have in your old tank that you got rid of after the transfer? Maybe one of them was eating it and preventing it from growing in your old tank.
