Get some sort of alternate power source (like a generator) for those times that you have no power. Even if it's the $99 special from harbor freight, at least that'll run a return pump and heater. I know many people will suggest air pumps on batteries but what happens when it's 60 inside the house and your tank temps drop. Air pump isn't going to do much. Get a generator or some sort of inverter that can handle a heater sized for your tank.

Sorry for the rant. My power went out last night about 1230 and it finally got restored at 10. I hooked my generator up about 3 and by the time I did, my tank was already at 74. My tank would have definitely been in the 60s if I didn't have a generator that could power a heater.
