I just lost my radiant and melanarus wrasee which I have had over 3 yrs. They survived the tank switch, Ich in other tank mates, and just about every tank param swing you can think of. They were both eating fine the day before they died and then all of a sudden, BAM. Dead. Anyone familiar with this?

At least my corals finally look okay...

Yup!! Like 4 months ago I lost 3 fish that had been in my tank for about a year, they were totally fine the day before, eating and doing their normal routine. It was a yellow tang & pair of firefish, fairly hardy fish. Checked all my parameters that morning when I found them dead and everything was normal

maybe they just got old and died? I have fish that are 8 years old and I always wonder when they die, how are they going to go?

What have you been feeding? I swear I lost two of my favorite fish on the same day (Several years old)years ago when I bought homemade food a few days prior.

What's the odds though that two die within a day from old age?

Yep happens to me too. Show no signs of disease. Eating well the day before. Wake up in the morning and he's dead. Like they had a heart attach in their sleep or something.

I'm not even sure if this is possible but, can algae be toxic? I cant keep a tang for the life of me and I am beginning to think its something they eat. I feed a mixture of frozen food(Rods, mysis, proprietary mixes) so I really doubt its that but, I am wondering if something they are picking at can be poisoning them? Anyone every hear of this or anything like it?

I doubt tangs would eat it if it was toxic! One theory I had when it happened to me was oxygen depletion since it was during a cold month & kept my windows closed longer periods than usual, I normally try to open a few windows every day for a few hours at least to let some fresh oxygen into the living room every day unless its raining.

Same thing happened to me a month ago! Established fish for a few years. Lost a radiant, naso, cleaner wrasse all within days! Everything else is thriving. Still a mystery til this day.

I've experienced the same. Really odd, I wonder if they had some kind of fish heart attack or something. Also the fish that just disappear are confusing. My clean up crew is good but an entire medium sized fish in just a few hours? Plus I never find bones. Even when I broke down the 225g and took out all the sand, not a single fish bone.
