Hi all,

I am thinking to order an acrylic tank from John, but I am not sure that would be safe or not if the height of the tank is 30" with 3/4" of thickness? At first, I wanted to go with 60Lx24Wx24H, but now I am thinking to change it to 60Lx24Wx30L with 3/4" of thickness. I checked all online websites, and I saw most companies make big tanks under 200 gals with only 1/2" of thickness.

Any opinion is very appreciated.

Thanks,

Trung

Trust John he won't steer you wrong

Are u getting it euro braced or rimless? That will also dictate thickness needed

5/8" is probably what they'd use and structurally sound for the size you're looking for. The only problem with thinner acrylic is that you'll get bowing as the tank gets older. With 3/4" you won't get any bowing. My dad has a 72x28x26 in 3/4" that's 8 years old and no bowing.

I have a 150g acrylic. What kind of overflow are you getting? I have an external overflow and have had some issues with leaks. I would recommend an internal overflow. Just my two cents.

Thank you Mike for the good advice. Really appreciate that.

Sounds like John will be using thicker acrylic so it will be sturdier than the others that you looked up

But yeah. He's been building acrylic tanks forever. He'll tell you if there will be issues with bowing

You could go rimless... When going rimless on those dims he will bump up to 1" though... And it will be $$$

Just throwing it out there. The 30" tanks look nice but they have challenges with cleaning and lighting that should be considered. Got long arms? :)
