Fellers,

A while back I had a couple good Diamond Gobies that would eat pellets. For about 2 years now I've gone through roughly 4-5 of them. They won't eat pellets and I can't imagine they can live off just algae and poop in the sand. Should I be throwing in some Mysis shrimp or something?

Thank You,
Jeremiah

Usually, the diamonds will not eat any type of prepared foods. They need a large established sand bed to keep them well fed with their natural diet which is the micro crustaceans and various fauna in the bed itself. I would recommend at least 120 gallons for one of them. They tend to either jump or waste away and die in most hobbyist tanks within 1-2 months. You can try putting Cyclop-Eeze or Mysis shrimp in various parts of the first top inch of the sand bed. Good luck.

I have a 135 and one of them has been alive for a while but he rarely comes out so the sand gets pretty gross after a couple days. He will only sift one side of the tank. The one that just died on me yesterday was a cleaning machine for about 6 months. I have a 3-4inch bed of sand. I guess I'll try hiding some food in the sand. Anything else sift sand as well as these guys?

I had a diamond goby 4 years ago For about 2 days. Then i couldn't find it and was looking for about a week. Tore my entire tank apart haha. Then my grandma tells me, oh yeah, i found a fish on the ground last week. Pretty depressing. Then i learned how hard they are to keep. So now i have my yellow watchman who has been with me for 4 years. I did love the job the diamond goby did on my sand though.

Just noticed this thread. I almost bought one yesterday. I wouldn't mind my somewhat dirty sand if it weren't for my YWG keeping the sand at his spot so clean.
