When is the closing date? Nice store but a bit over priced. Maybe get some clearance deals I hope.

That sucks about Jim's. I bought Regal #3 from him and it was eating. The store looked really good and well equipped.

RIP Regal III.

Local fish stores will be "extinct" soon, just like public phone booths.
Yeah we all get bummed when they close one by one, but very few of us will pay just a couple bucks more to support the LFS. The truth is though if they can't compete with online prices of dry goods... why would anyone shop there besides to get livestock?

Well, nobody likes to give money away. The advantages of living in socal is that you can get things for retail prices the next day. It would probably take longer or be more effort to go through a middle man like an LFS when you can order directly online for the same price.

I will sometimes order small items that would encrue a shipping charge at my LFS, but that is not nearly enough of a sale to make very much profit from.

And now that BRS is offering free shipping on all their items, it encourages people to order small items through them that would require shipping costs from other retailers.

And don't even get me started on amazon...

I wonder how much "we" represent? Us forum guys, how much business are we to LFS, compared the average hobbyist who isn't an overboard addict where reefing is a way of life.

Are we 20% of their actual business? More? Less?

Kinda sucks as the southbay already had a lack of LFS.

As of late I've been going to Aquatic Fantasy in RB. Clean store with decent fish selection. Not much in terms of coral though..

I would bet it's much less. Probably less than 10% of the hobby and far less of their business.
