I'm debating if I should pick one up from the lfs. Has anybody has long term success with these in their reef tanks? Any tips? Any bad experiences?

Becareful D,

They go for a premium and even though they need a huge tank that doesn't guarantee that they are always going to remain healthy. Plus, they are territorial as all hell. They are worse than powder blues. In the wild they are a large schooling reef crest fish. On the flip side they look sick if you can maintain a healthy one!

Sean has one for a long time
Scallopking in RC but eventually died of starvation when he down size from 240 to 100 gallon
It's very prone to ick so... If you have some in your system I won't recommend it.
I will eventually get one later on.
Rainbow a nice one it's been there for 2 months and a large one for 3 months or so
I going there today I let you know
I thought they sold the small one but they just moved it !

was there today. They have 2 of them available. XLarge for $230, small for $130. both have been there 2 weeks and doing well. But I may just sell all my acans and brian coral to get some angel fish instead,, still debating.

I have loss 5 emperor angel including adult orange tail since I set up the tank because of ick despite of a long QT period with copper.
Including asfur, queen and so many tangs .Koran (the cheapest one ) is the only one alive.
I can't keep fish but my corals are doing well so I will stick with colored stick it seems easier.
I hate ICK so I will not dare getting one of these.

Super beautiful fish but an Ich magnet, if you just stare at it for too long...LOL! Color contrast is very striking and the swim patterns are unique compared to other Tangs.

I've had one in my 100g for 2yrs in the past. Ate everything and was definitely the model citizen but didnt take $hit from other fish! Unfortunately, it past away during an a tank upgrade due to temp flux =(. IME...make sure it eats before you make the purchase.
