Ok. So I pulled a bonehead move and I dosed cipro in my tank. That caused an imbalance and killed off my beneficial bacteria and I’m going through new tank syndrome and a byropsis outbreak. I’m on day 9 of fluconazole so next weekend I’m doing a water change and I’m going to start building up my bacteria cultures. I was thinking about running zeovit again but the basic 4 additives that I’ve used in the past added up to 200.00. That made me consider running biopellets again.

So my goal is not nutrient export. Dosing phyto and running a refugium does really good nutrient export. My goal in keeping a constant supply of beneficial bacteria. I bought the refugium starter kit from algae barn when I set up this tank so I’ve been running the ceramic bio cubes that came with it.

Are there any other options? What bacteria do you dose? I’ve done zeobak, MB7, and Dr Tims one and only.

I've heard they have a DIY PNS ProBio culture but I can't find where to buy it. This sounds like a really strong bacteria strain. It's what I dosed that seemed to help knock my dinos back as well. I'm going to make this part of my routine dosing. Up to this point I've been using those Prodibo vials from BioDigest. It sounds like the PNS bacteria strain is better/more well rounded.

It was probably part of your starter kit? They sell it at AlgaeBarn.

Well, I’m already culturing phytoplankton. Might as well try this! Haha

Bacteria is always a good topic.
I've had a little cyano annoying me. I've tried https://aquabiomics.com/product/live-reef-rubble and recently also tried their live sand. I think I'll try that algae barn PNS bacteria that Smite is having luck with. @Smite do you dose the combo red and yellow?
I haven't tried the Yello. I dosed a combo of ProBio and Substrate Sauce. YelloSnow includes vitamins and aminos and I was worried it might fuel the dinos. I want to try it in the future once I have everything cleared up.

@drexel had been recommending I try PNS for some time now and I'm glad I finally did. Maybe he's got some insight on the yellosnow and his tank?

Also @CoralNerd, UC has some real ocean live rock. drexel was kind enough to pick up some rubble for me. I'll be headed out to grab that later today. I'll be adding it to my media cups. I'll post some pictures of it and let you know if I see any changes going forward with the tank.

Yello Sno is mainly coral food, it replicates a "marine fall" but it does contain one strain of PNS and it also contains vitamin b, which is an important component to PNS' growth. I usually dose the day after I dose Probio and usually 20-30% less than the recommended dose (only because I have a heavy feeding hand). Skimmer should be off for a couple hours, which I think should be done every day, but that's another topic. You can mix both Probio and Yello Sno together and dose at once, there's no problem with mixing them together.

Interesting thread. When I first got in the hobby real fresh ocean rick was readilly available. Robble was also available very inexpensivly. Their was at least one group that a bunch of people sent a bit of their live sand to that was then mixed with everyone else's sand and cultured fir a bit the each recipient got a portion of sand. The point being to develop a diverse sand bed. The cost was primarily the shipping cost.
That said I thing my love rock has lost a lot of diversity in 25 years. I would love to go in with someone locally to buy some of the farmed live rock now being sold by a few vendors.
