I swapped tanks and my ph was okay. I recalibrated and now I'm showing a whole point lower day and night. I'm 8.1 day and 7.73 at the low, so pushing that lower limit for sps.
EDIT: this is running co2 media. I know deeper tanks can have lower ph values and I run a CARX but man, seems low.

Rather than order new probes and wonder which is actually right I'd like to hear if anyone has a goo checker they recommend, like a stand alone hanna type deal. I know hanna makes good stuff, it looks like they have a cheap probe checker and then the actual instrument checker that's a bit more expensive.

I had an API master kit sitting around from cycling rock for this build, it has ph so I ran that and it looked like 8.4 but I have little faith in that brand. Any other good brands that everyone is using to double check their apex ect?

Thanks

Did you verify that the calibration is accurate afterwards? I keep extra calibration fluid on hand to check that it’s actually reading 7 and 10 when I finish the process. The only time I recalibrate is when it’s not reading either of those (7&10). I check once a year on average.

I usually do but now I’m second guessing whether I did. I have more. I’ll check tomorrow.

Question, do you float your calibration fluids to get them to tank temp? I did this time which also has me wondering if that plays a roll in calibration?

Yes, temperature is very important when calibration ph probes. I float the bag in the sump for at least 15-20 minutes to be sure. I use a plastic clamp to hold it in place while I calibrate/check the reading. It has to be a constant temp in order to work.

Rnt you running into overgrowth issues as it is. Your corals look good too. Wouldn’t stress it
Ha, yeah I hear ya. I’m sure the few pieces I lost were just stress from the transfer but this got me wondering if it’s a ph issue. Says 7.7 now so lower than yesterday AM by .03.

Are you using the hanna pen or the vial checker?

Absolutely tank transfer. Even if your tank is established amd..., to transfer that many corals at once, guarantee loss. Did you help with the tank leak at pci Scott’s house?

True, I just thought I matched everything as close to perfect as possible but there was still the change in lighting and flow either way, so that is probably it. I'd still like to have a secondary way to cross reference my ph though.

There are so many things going on we can’t see it test for

I’ve been looking at Hanna’s Halo PH pen for a while now. I might pull the trigger on one soon
