not good in home aquariums period. Unless your tank is at least 800 gallons. My buddy Armen has an 800 gallon tank and even he feels it's too small.

for the most park sharks and rays are a bad choice for home tanks.almost all get to big for most people.i am a huge fan of sharks.i got to see a great white last year and it was the most beatiful animal i have ever seen.when i first got into the hobby the first fish i wanted was a shark.but after doing some research i started a reef tank and gave up on the shark idea.i have been told it is the shape of most tanks that are the problem for the larger sharks.maybe i will build a cilinder tank one day.

Great Whites are some of the most magnificent fish there are.
Here is an example...

The Montery Bay Aquarium got a 6month old white shark, in there main display called THE OUTER BAY, this system holds 1,000,000 gallons of sea water. They also have an open system, at night the pumps pull in direct seawater out of Montery Bay. During they day they filter the water to provide clear viewing.

In 3 months they had to replace the white shark with another juvinile as the original white shark was too big for THE OUTER BAY aquarium @ 1 M gallons! Sharks and rays belong in a huge aquarium, because most of them constantly need to be moving. This is the reason for unsuccesful keeping of most smaller sharks. Sharks can't swim backwards and if they do they will suffocate, because water isnt passing through there gill slits. So when you have a shark in a rectangle aquarium what happens when they can't turn around at the end of the tank? The answer is to to create a large volume round tank with gentle current, this gives them a place to constantly swim, but it also ensures that water will cross over there gills.

Pretty Interesting... Check out Expedition Great White. Now that is an interesting show!
