Well, decided to go ahead and get my blue tang last night. (And a royal gramma)
acclimated them both for about an hour, temp for about 20 minutes, then by drip for the rest of the time... Both happy.
both swimming around, kind of cautious at first, then out in the open. Feed the fish, the tang and the gramma ate just fine.
Get up this morning, and the tang seems a little down on energy and is breathing rather quickly. Ate a few pellets, but not like last night.
Also, the lower rear 1/4 appears faded, almost like a whitish coating. He's not using any of his bottom fins, they are all pulled up against his body.
Checked params, all look great... gramma and the other fish are all happy.
now, tang has gone behind a couple rocks and wedged himself in at a 45 degree lean. if I disturb him, he swims out, but not far, then circles down and settles back to the same spot... Still breathing very fast.
I first thought it may be Ich, but it's not white spots, it's like he's almost discolored on the rear lower 1/4... I was toldd that tangs can play dead, but this guy seems to really have an issue...
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks

How long were lights out after you put him in? Was he harassed at all? they don't take kindly to being chased by other fish and most likely is stressed out. I would turn the lights back off for 24 hours to maybe let him settle in...

oops... need to edit my post... I said it was the gramma that was down on energy...
Lights were off for 12 hours after I introduced them... Gramma is funny... when any of the 3 green hromis swim by, he pokes out of his hole he found in the rock with his mouth wide open and lunges at the chromis LOL...
The tang was left completely alone... only other fish are the 3 green chromis, 1 firefish goby, 2 false perc clowns and the royal gramma. I'll keep the lights off tomorrow and see if that helps.
Thanks

it may be just getting used to its new surroundings, personally i like to leave the lights off at least 24 hours or more. It's tough but the health of the fish makes it worthwhile...

here's a few pics...
no clouding of the eyes, the discoloration of his belly is just discoloration, no bumps or fuzz or anything on it...
I am taking him back to the LFS in the morning, and will either get my money back, or another tang, AND whatever meds I will need to flush the tank of whatever killed this guy...

the white on it's belly is a bad sign... unless you get some better pics of him, there's no way we can see... it could be ammonia burns... check your levels... if they say something is wrong with your water, then you're the one that's gonna look bad... a hippo tang is a very delicate fish... more than others... and the LFS is not gonna give you your money back... well, depends wich one... but many don't... maybe you'll get 10% off your next one... maybe...

I would say if your zoos aren't opening and fish are dying there is something wrong in your water. If your convinced your testing methods are accurate it could be just an isolated event. I agree with Gumbii to double check your tests. Side note I dip all of my fish in Hydroplex which tends to help them with bacteria and parasites that really don't show any signs of being present. Good luck with the LFS.

Hmm... I'll have to get some Hydroplex...
As far as the tank as a whole, I've got that one Zoa that isn't opening, but all the others, Palys, toadstool, GSP, Green candy, burdsnest etc and the other fish are all healthy and happy.
I wish I would have taken the time to look at this guy closer at the LFS to see if there were issues...
it was the only one they had left, and his tank was under crappy lighting...

Better selection! Also, that probably explains why it was the last one. Plus you don't want a blue tang... Everyone has those. You want a purple tang...I recommend NEW AGE AQUATICS for my live stock purchases, including thus purple tang. They have some crazy ones!

Thank you. Yes it is. I can't wait for it to split.
I'll take the baby when they split....$25.00!

I bet you would. Its most likely that I will auction the first baby. I get hit up about that nem all the time.
Ya know. I almost took that a looooong time ago. But I didn't want to put a nem in my tank! Dang I shoulda! What are they Chad? $70 bucks...? That's cheap for these ones. They are primo!
