So apex is on sale tom, I don't have one and have always heard good things. But is it really worth dropping the cash on it? A lot of people say they Couldn't have a tank without it. I just wanted to hear some kool things that people love about their apex. Just to push me over the top. So please your input is much appreciated!!!!!!!

Do it!
I started with the RKL and got tired of the pain in the butt way it has for programing etc. Sold it and got the apex. Best thing I got for my tank. Love all the different ways there are for access and with fusion programing is easy
I wont have a tank without it.

But why wouldn't you have a tank with out it? Is it because it makes everything available to you by the touch of a button?

I could never setup one without it. It alarms & texts me when I'm on travel, turns off my skimmer when it's full, does my ATO, stops my pump if my return line is clogged, alarms me if I have water on the floor, controls my fan and my chiller, endless possibilities!!!!

Get one and it will be the best investment for your tank. Get a web cam while your at it so you can checkout your tank whil you are stressed at work.

That all sounds so kool, but what I don't understand how would it have any clue if my skimmer is full? Or return line is clogged? Is that extra stuff you have to buy to have all that configured?

Buy a breakout box which is like $30 I think... And hook up a sh!t load of float valves and or leak detector sensors around your tank.

With this system, you are also saving yourself to purchase a separate ATO unit.

My Tank Build
#8
My list is really long for reasons why I love the apex.

Youve got to get a few of the add ons if you are going to want to monitor and track a bunch of stuff-
-I love the apex because I can see where my PH was bouncing around in my Calcium reactor, adjust the bubble/flow accordingly.
-I can also see when the power went out, click a button for feed mode, click a different button for water change mode,
-Theres a float switch in my skimmate container so if it gets full it turns the skimmer off.
- I also put in controls for if the tank is low (something is leaking or wrong) sends me a text and shuts off certain equipment.
-I hooked up my webcam to it so I could see my tank anywhere.
-My Chiller and heaters dont fight each other anymore
-I can tier the cooling system, in summer at 78 degrees the fans over the sump turn on, and if it keeps getting hotter at 81 the chiller turns on
-Instead of having 4 different timers for my lights its all programmed through the apex, so frag tank lights (reverse schedule of the main tank) main tank, t5's, night lights
-Ive had my apex alarm text me, my wife called a minute later and said something was making noise, I verified the pump making noise and turned it off via my cell phone (I didnt want her to start unplugging stuff)

The apex is really good if you like to actually monitor temp, ph, and all sorts of other things. It also is good if you have some time to build in your programs takes a few days at first but its autopilot from there on.

Could you elaborate how the apex detect the pump making noise?

Thanks

Maybe make a post separate from this just purely so that your not deep in this post so that nobody sees yours. It's a good question, I know that it obviously comes with less stuff that eventually you will wanna buy.

I have a jr.
And to confirm everyone else as well. It's that thing you didn't know you needed until you have one. It just makes everything so much easier.
The Jr with the pH probe is probably fine. I use it for my heater and chiller and the calcium reactor. Light are on a separate timer but they can tool those too so that's pretty cool.
As far as the rest of the stuff I have a dj strip. Each has an individual switch so I can quickly shut off anything I want without having to make 12 steps through the apex to turn off something. But I am sure most on here take advantage of the feed mode to disable pumps.

If you don't need the extra bells and whistles the jr is great and will take care of almost all the functions of the tank.
Just make sure you get the one with 8 outlets. The 4 is pointless.

Hope this helps.

Im not part of the koo kids, don't have one and never had one. I bought a RKL+ a few years back and just recently found it and decided to use it. I've always used timers and dj strips.....but I guess if I can afford it, I would like to be Mr. Jones and get one too. I wanna be the koo kids this holiday...

Can you have a reef tank without an APEX? YES
Does the Apex make life easier? YES
Can an APEX save your tank?? Hell Yes

It really depends on you tank setup. My first controller was ACJR and I wanted to get rid of all the light timers and hear stories about people losing your tank due to heaters getting stuck. Now with the apex I can control my temp, turn off my skimmer when it's full, ATO with float valves, turn off my doser if it get stuck on stupid, dim your LED or control your pumps, and even email you if your 2 year old open your stand door.

I bought an Apex shortly after setting up my tank... it was painful on the wallet after all of the other setup costs but is hands down one of the best purchases made for the tank. With the BF sales I plan to pick up another temp probe, the leak detection module and a couple of sensors, etc.

Any doser will work and since I only dose Alk I set my doser outlet to turn off if ph is too high which means it stuck on stupid.

Do you have the ACJR or Apex Jr. I'm pretty sure the Apex Jr is integrated inside the 4 outlet system???
