Okay all you fanatics lets see if you can shed some light on this for me. I have a 24g Nano that has been going for about 18 months. It is stuffed full of Zoas and Palys and has always been beautiful. Over the past few weeks I have some clusters that are not opening. Everything is the same but they seem irritated. I asked around at LFS and they have me testing Calc and Iodine with Salifert, no real clues there.

Any idea what is going on???

Lets see what everyone else here thinks about this as I'm not sure why I was told to do this but it worked. I had the same problem once about two years ago and my LFS owner told me to add a little more to my iodine treatment for a couple days and see what happens. I don't know why but it worked. I wouldn't want to really recommend this to you without a better understanding of why it worked. Maybe someone here knows why.

PS- I had Zoas that closed in the past for a week and when they reopened they lost their color, they turned brown/orange. I would be quick to find a solution. Maybe a friend or your LFS can hold them for you for a while?

I would do an Iodine dip, it's pretty simple. Make sure you don't have any zoa eating nudi's or any other pests. Just put like 1-2 drops in with RO water and dip the zoas/palys in and spin the frag/colony clockwise.

If that doesn't work I would try a Vitamin C dip, here's a link for that.

I make sure to dip any corals esp. zoas/palys before introducing them in my tank. GL with that.

Great Link NVTE - I have the starfish for sure and maybe others, I'm off to take a closer look. No spots though so I am not rushing into this dipping some people are suggesting.

It is just random groups. Your right, the tank is jammed pack with all sorts of varieties and they have been doing great for some time. The little white star fish just showed up on the scene after I put a new frag in. I'm am thinking they are the culprit and will be looking for a harlequin shrimp this week end. In the mean time I have plucked a hundred of so from the tank by hand.
