I'm considering getting a crocea clam for my 2.5 gallon dwarf seahorse tank with a 10 gallon sump. Right now I have a regular 18" T8 15W bulb and I'm convinced that is not enough to provide sufficient photosynthetic growth. The light is 6" above my 2.5 where I plan to keep the crocea. The dwarfs are divided from the clam so no one will be eaten or disturbed. I'm not too enthusiastic about getting a metal halide and would rather stick to fluorescent. What Im confused about is what to look for in a bulb. Should I be looking for high watts? Or high Kelvin? Currently Im trying to find a compact fluorescent bulb to place above my 2.5 and create a light funnel so it gives direct light to the clam and doesnt blind anything else. Currently Im looking at a compact fluorescent bulb from Home Depot around 100-300 watts.

Tough to do...

Lighting is the easy part. Just shell out for good LEDs, like AI Sol or ecotech radion. More than enough light & adjustable color with radion.

The problem is feeding. Small clams need spot feeding often. Too much polution for a small tank. Larger than 4 inches they need to filter approx 75gph in addition to sufficient light. Both very difficult in 12.5 gallons. But if you can do it..:thumb:

With a 2.5 gallon tank, you should get a AI nano. The price is right and it will be more than enough for the clam. I would be more worried about keeping params stable.

I do weekly 25% water changes on the 10 gallon sump every week with the sexy shrimp and live rock on the bottom and dwarfs on top. It is a battle! Since the dwarfs have an extremely short digestive tract and there's tons of poo. A pump turns on at night to exchange the water from the 2.5 with the 10 and to sweep any left over food to the sexy shrimp. I'm saving up for a protein skimmer and debating on if I want to install the sock for the outlet and hand feed the sexy shrimp or keep it as is. The 2.5 dimensions are 12"Lx6"Wx8"H.
