I've been using tech-M for a long time and I'm constantly moving the dosing container around to mix up all the stuff that falls to the bottom. So I finally put my idea to work. I was planning on putting the stirrer on a timer but it it seemed to be so quite I figured just leave it on. I'm looking for some feed back. Good idea/Bad idea. Let me know what you think.

Maybe I will put it on a timer then. I'll just have it turn on before the doser turns on. I didn't think about the magnet wearing a hole. Thanks for the comment.

I don't think the magnet is going to wear a hole in the container. Took many chem classes in college and we used mag stirrers all the time. Those small mag stirrers didn't erode anything lol. This is a great idea. Thanks for posting this! hopefully my old lab can give me some old equipment!

Thanks Dave. So far this thing has been running great. Wish I had done it sooner.

Pretty sweet. I'm not familiar with them. Do they stir pretty fast? The equivalent of shaking?

It shouldn't stir fast. If it spins too fast the magnet bounces all over and doesn't mix very well. I have a dial put in that allows me to adjust the speed. I have it just enough so it wont bounce all over and still mixes.

Always glass. But from what I know of these mag stirrers, to get a good mix going, you don't need it to be stirring on max. The mag stirrer just spins in one spot. I always used them on low speed to get my mixtures going. If one is worried about erosion, The can put one of those plastic things they use to catch algae scrubbers on the bottom between the acrylic and the mag stirrer. Problem solved.

If you have an open channel on your dosing pump, you could use that as your mixer. Put the intake at the bottom of the bottle and the outlet at the top. Let it run for a few minutes prior to when you want you magnesium dose to kick in. Should be good enough.

Gotcha gotcha. My bad. I didn't fully read your post correctly. Btw did you have it on all the time? I'm about to buy some mag, alk, and cal and I have only 1 mag stirrer which I'm going to put on mag. Don't know if I should spin all the time or only 30-40 minutes before the doser uses it. Thanks!

I have mine on all the time. But I think I'm going to go to a timer. I don't think I should chance creating a hole at the bottom of my container.

if you had it on for this long inspect the bottom. i hope it didnt. i agree with iammrhappy find the cutting board material and cut a round piece and thinner the better. if its thick it mess with the magnet spinning anything messing with it spinning will knock it to the side.
