One of the reasons I found this forum is I threw up some frags to get rid off on Offer Up. A SCR member clued me in to this forum. Anyway my post on Offer Up was up for a few days when I got the notice from them about selling of animals is not allowed and my post was taken down. This is strange to me because I do see others selling "coral decor" and have been for a while. Some have post that go back for months. Mine lasted a few days maybe.
Are some sellers that low that they would do that? I can't imagine Offer Up is scouring the posts for illegally posting coral decor

Hey T, did you see my post about the koji wada? It looks like it MIGHT come back:
I was going to say, how did you kill it? But...
You are showing me pics of your LT leather... not your Nepthea...
Dude I so ripped out a huge pink nepthea for you.
You should get my slightly chipped AIO so I can get a decent frag tank. I wouldn’t mind selling at CFM or equivalent, but I just need a big enough place to put them in the meantime...

I noticed offer up started a “witch hunt” so to say for people selling coral on there. As you mentioned, I also noticed that people started labeling them as “aquarium fake decor” for the same reason Im sure. I too have gotten some good deals on there. I personally know 2 other members who sell on there

A lot of online selling apps have banned the selling of live animals. There was a law passed a few years back about the breeding and selling of pets. It was just another way for the state to tax breeders. Most online apps don’t want to deal with the legality of the selling of live animals so they just banned it from the platform.
In the eyes of the law corals are still live animals

So if I read this correctly, it’s time for me to exit the hobby since it’s unlawful to give away or sell these animals. Does that also mean I will have to kill all of them by pouring Clorox into the tanks?

I don’t think other reefers on Offer Up would flag other people selling corals on it. Mostly like it gets flag when it’s labeled as living animals.

What’s the difference between OfferUp and online forums? In the end, living animals cannot be sold, essentially without a license?

what about trading? One can trade these animals for other animals? Perhaps trade “dead presidents” for “live animals”? :)

People now a day is too anal about being politically correct that it just ruin for the rest. People just need to be educated about it first instead of running to conclusion when hearing certain word(s).

I think the difference between Offer Up and online forums are one is a market for selling/for free and the other is a community that share informations between others. This forum does have a market section, but that doesn’t mean it should be abuse as a market environment.

For me, it’s not about being politically correct but legally correct. Given CA Penal Code 597.4, it prohibits selling live animals in public. So if you meet up with your SCR buddy in a public location to buy/sell frags/fish, is it legal?

Separately, what if you buy/sell live animals in a non-public location (e.g. at one’s residence)? Does that make it legal?
