Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with breeding dragonface pipefish. They have been one of my favorite reef inhabitants since I started in the hobby and I love watching my pair hover around the rock work in my sps tank. To my surprise last night as I was checking for pests after lights out I found the water column filled with baby pipefish. I collected about 20 of them with coral baster and set up a little grow out tank last night. I've read many articles on pipefish breeding but I can't find much information on what to feed pipefish fry for the first couple weeks. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Realistically I don't think I will succeed with this first attempt but now that I know the pair is breeding I would like to attempt raising future hatches.

Thanks
Matt

Wow that's awesome Matt! Wish I had some info to give. My guess would be live food small enough for them. Rotifers maybe?? Hope someone else can help! You could try what ever it is they feed baby clowns. Since it'll be live food and super small. Good luck man and f you cans successfully breed them I'd definitely be in for a pair!!

They are extremely small but look just like the adults haha. Pretty much all of them are active and swimming I'm going to get some cyclopeeze and pods tomorrow to add a variety of food for them. FullSizeRender(5).jpg

I feel like cyclops may work but and anything just hatched will most likely only go for live food. That's the problem, you have to set up something for live food as well. Hit up @juenke she does it for her clowns, im sure she will have some good info.

I have brine shrimp eggs. They take about 24 hours to hatch and they are tiny tiny. You can have the brine shrimp eggs for free. I'll show you how to hatch them as well. Dragon faced pipefish are one of my favorites as well!
