look like he was trying to scratch something off his skin. you could try Dr Tim's First Defense. ti will helps with stress relief and adds vitamins to you systems water and it does help. I have has some thing like that on some on my tangs and with some help he can pull out of this. if it gets worse your other tanks mate could start attaching him. Then you know what will happen then..:( good luck

I wouldnt jump to any conclusions. Check and see if any rocks have fallen recently. Maybe he got wedged between some rocks and struggles his way out. Just keep an eye on his habits and see if any other fish are picking on him that normally wouldnt. That is another sign of an ill fish, "being picked on".

I agree, I would jump to any conclusions just yet. Give him the benefit of the doubt and just monitor him carefully. If he is getting bullied he will for sure die as he will become stressed. If he is getting bullied I would take him out if you can as he will more than likely develop ich and then it will spread.

Remember that most fish especially tangs are very resilient to illness and disease as long as they were healthy before they got sick. Tangs stab other tangs all the time with there scalpels and they survive and heal and that is that. So, I would be very cautious in moving him and causing more stress to him.

I agree completely, if he is still eating good and not being bullied by any other fish moving him might cause more stress then needed.

Sorry but I disagree with getting rid of fish that have irritation.

Keep the tang if you like having a yellow tang. there is something that is bothering him and that is causing him to try to get it off. try to find out what it is or your other fish will have that same problems. if one fish has this all the fish have it. there are things you can do to help him heal. I mean it is like if you have a dog that has a skin irritation you take him to the pound to put him to sleep? it could be that the tang is lacking vitamins to help him fight off the irritation. I have some expensive fish I would lose $1000 or more it I got rid of fish that had small problems.

I know that yellow tangs are not really expensive but it is a living animal. I hope he pulls through. best of luck to you and your fish.

If you chose to get rid of him I will take him.
