After a bunch of mysterious death, I broke down my sps frag tank. I took about my fluval sp6 and found a few chunks of metal, as well as some rust on 2 of the screws. The magnet had a black coating that wiped off, not sure what it was. I plan on contacting fluval about the rust, but is they actually enough to cause any problems. 200 gal system.

It depends on what the metal that is rusting is but maybe not a problem.

Let us know what they say.
It looks like the screws are stainless. This pump was only in for 4 months, my other sp6 has been in for 1.5 yrs. I have yet to check that one.

Check your copper levels if you have any water from the tank. I checked my copper after my tlf magnet rusted, it was at .10 and killed a ton of sps.

I checked it with lamotte copper test kit---0. Systems getting a vinegar bath, followed by the new live rock getting an acid bath.

A lil rust isn't going to hurt anything. What do you think gfo is? Definately of a screw I wouldn't worry, now off of an corroded magnet maybe a different story.

So both pumps looked ok. Both had some rust on the screws. The older pump actually had less rust in the screws...go figure. Now I need to tear into the jebao pump I have plumbed into my mixing station. Problem is, I don't think they're intended to be ran externally as they crack easy and leak. I have the whole pump sealed with Weldon to keep it from leaking. May just end up replacing it. Maybe another fluval sp6 on the mixing station, that way I have a backup for my frag tanks.
