I live near the freeway and our house get's pretty dusty. I've never had a problem. Just cover the tank with a towel if your attaching something to the ceiling. The popcorn shouldn't be just falling down into the tank hehe. A canopy would protect you from that but I don't like canopies. But for piece of mind something you may want to consider.

+1
My place gets pretty dusty as well and it has never been an issue.
If pieces of the popcorn ceiling is just falling off you want to just scrap it all off and repaint the ceiling.

nice...I live by glass stone next to St. Jeanne De Lestonnac School and the 5 and 55 freeways cross. the other landmark is a closed down Italian restraint on 1st st and I live behind that where there is a empty field. so I know what you mean with dusty.

my pop corn ceiling is not falling apart but some time with time walking on it from the 2nd floor, if playing around by my son jumping and running could losing up some crumbs. but I have considered removing im just afraid of what ill find underneath and now is not the best time to remove economically speaking.

like I was telling JC I have never noticed this on other tanks.

thanks

I've scraped the popcorn off my entire house. It's easier than you think, bad but with precaution not messy. If the least you'd like to do is scrape over the tank they have a tool at Home Depot that is a scraper with an attachment for a trash bag. Cover tank completely, squirt bottle with water. Spray area off and on for about 30 min. Scrape and then let dry. It's just drywall which some primer/paint will take care of the look. I'd be happy to assist if you want and put one tank worry out of your mind.
