Does anyone have a garage sump? We're going to be moving and I think I'm going to put my sump in the garage. Does anyone have any advice or foresee any problems? Neither my wife or I park in the garage with the exception of the Harley.

Do you have tools in your garage? when I had a frag tank in the garage, all my tools started to rust.

Yeah same with my 180 when it was in the garage. Tools on the other side rusted out. You'll probably want to build a little sump room with its own exhaust fan. When I buy a home I plan to do the same so I can add a large sump and refugium to my system.

other than rusting tools, it's the best thing I ever did. water changes are easier. when I spill water, which I always do I don't care.

I was thinking about the garage sump as well. My plan was building a seal waterproof canopy (which you can slide it aside when you do cleaning) on top of my sump and have the exhaust fan to outside the garage.

I always wanted to do garage sump but the 35' PVC run has discouraged me from doing it.

I have Garage sump, but mine is walled off with Exhaust. Before that rust on anything metal in garage!

No Bad smell or noise in house and made maintenance much easier.

Can barely fit a car in garage is the only downfall!

My garage is 10' tall the fish room is 8' tall and the exhaust runs over the top of the fish room to the outside wall of the garage with Galvanized steel spiral 6" duct. I have never had any rust or dripping show in garage. Exhaust fan is Panosonic and runs on low 24/7 and kicks up on Humistat if needed. I think the fan I used is 17 watts and was guaranteed for 5 years, been 3 and perfect so far. Nothing in my fish room is steel, but I do not have a moisture problem with the vent system.

I JUST moved my 8 footer out of the garage this weekend. It was epic hell and almost 20+ hours of work.

If the garage can be well ventilated and insulated, then its cool. But mine has a metal door so whatever temp outside was in the winter, it was also in on the inside. And whatever temp outside for the summer was, it was even HOTTER in the inside, like +10 degrees.

During the winter, if you dont have a room heater, condensation will build heavily, rust metals, grow mold, and soak the walls and doors.

thats if your garage has a metal door and very little insulation

Scott's set up is outrageously cool. So well done/thought out.
