I think it's time to replace my heaters. they have been running 3 years. 225 gal tank, I am running 2X300w Ebo Jager (Eheim). I have been running that brand for over 40 years after having a cheep heater stay on and kill everything. Maybe 15 years ago I tried some new fangled titanium heater Marine Depot had written a glowing review of. it was very attractive not only because I'm a gearhead at heart and it was "new" but also those Ebo heaters are yuge and there's always the risk of glass breaking. I found it used a lot of electricity and didn't do a great job of heating the tank. Have any of those gotten any better or should I just stick with what works?

I switched to finnex titanium heaters about [emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]] years ago… probably more. I have no complaints. Looks like the new ones come with a controller now. This time around I used the BRS titanium heaters. So far they’re getting the job done. Between the [emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]] I think I like the finnex better.

I used to run the Eheim heater too. I switched because the rheumatoid are really long and didn’t fit in my new (at the time) set up. The titanium heaters are smaller and have more watts for their size.

BRS branded scheggo heaters are good. I stick to the 100w and 300w versions and haven't had any issues. Early on BRS had issues with the 200w elements, but I think those were quickly resolved. I use them with the IM Helio universal controller, which is pretty good, but I double check calibration every 6 months.

On one tank I run Finnex titanium with a controller, and on another tank, I use the Helio. I think the titanium heathers are much smaller for the wattage, and easier to place where you want it.

I’ve always used Ebo Jagers in the past. Here recently for the 330, I’ve given BRS titanium a try with the Inkbird controller. Another one I’ve been experimenting with are the Sicce SCUBA preset heaters. They seem to do the job but have a hard time keeping water at 77. It’s usually around 76.5

I hate heaters. The least reliable most destructive piece of aquarium equipment.

Jagger heaters are still decent in my opinion, but I wouldn’t run any heater without a backup controller. I started using a backup controller 25 years ago after a stuck on disaster.

Yea, that's the thing I remember from the titanium heaters I used. It seemed like they had to run longer to keep the temp up and when it got really cold they couldn't cope

I look at BRS and the 250W ebo jager is rated for 106-159 gallons the SCUBA 250 is only rated for 53-75 gallons. Helio PTC doesn't have a 250W but for $196 the 350W unit is only good for 50-85 gallons.

yes, this! I set the Jagger thermostat to 79, that way when (not if) the apex takes a dump, they won't overheat the tank as much

I just run them to failure with this setup. Proactive replacement is probably a good idea but I just know they have stuck on if apex switches them off and sends me an alert.
