My name is jake, 27 years old from Rancho Cucamonga. I have been interested in saltwater for quite some time but always scared off when people told me how complicated it can be. I DONT CARE, I am going to finally take the dive. I bought a 12 gallon freshwater tank a few months back just to make sure that an aquarium was something I really wanted and that it was not just a phase before I went and dumped a bunch of money into a saltwater aquarium.

I have been looking for over a month at what tank I should get and I can't commit to a size or anything else, mainly because I don't know much about the hobby. I was just looking at a used 28 gallon nano cube to get started just because there isn't as much of a setup process until I learn more about this. But now I'm leaning towards a little bit larger of a tank. I kind of want to buy a used complete setup as my first tank and go from there. If any of you guys know a decent starter tank or any other advice I'd appreciate it!

Hi, buying used when your first starting out can be difficult.I did and it was super hard to recover parts started going out and it seemed one after another. My second time I bought a 45gal from Sc aquariums whole setup was like $500 ish but came with everything and brand new. From there I have slowly been upgrading stuff, like my lights, skimmer. I have had no prob with my tank. One thing to keep in mind is smaller is not easier lol.

Good luck I.E stand up

Welcome!! I've bought used twice n have had pretty good success on my end, plus it's way cheaper. One thing though, both of my used tank upgrades were tanks that were up n running at the moment, that will at least assure u everything is functioning properly! As far as tank size from my personal experience u want to go bigger right off the back! In smaller tanks parameters can swing quick n cause problems while they're easier to control in larger tanks. Good luck with ur future set up n u can always come in here and ask questions, there's a lot of good peeps in here who are always happy to help. U can also search older threads, chances are whatever question u have has been asked a few dozen times at least already in this forum

The real question before determining size would be: What do you want to keep in the aquarium? And try to think out a year or two to answer that question.
