does anyone use IO salt? purple bucket in particular?
i've been getting a copper reading in my DT lately, along with some other unwanted crap like a high level of zinc. i just kind of chalked it up to something i was dosing. i checked pumps/magnets all that fun stuff and didn't find anything. so a couple weeks ago, after a triton test confirmed some unwanted metals, i ran cuprisorb hoping that'd get rid of it. i tested it today with my hanna copper checker and got 0.06. so still not 0
i suddenly had the idea, maybe my dumbass should test my source water. i've been doing several water changes the last couple weeks trying to get nutrients down, and sure enough my freshly mixed saltwater had a reading of 0.14 copper
to narrow it down further, i checked my RODI water (apparently the hanna copper checker works in freshwater) and got 0.00.
so the problem is firmly in my saltwater mixing brute trashcan. the only thing in there is a single tunze powerhead (less than a year old) and the water. no heater. i took out the tunze and checked it for any sign of magnet failure, but it looks fine
making things worse, this most recent batch of saltwater is using mostly a brand new bucket of IO salt, which i'm having to suspect is the source of the problem
i've loved me some IO salt for quite awhile, but if this is two bad batches of salt with freaking copper of all things in it, i'm gonna have to find a new salt. but i'm also curious if anyone else has run into this particular issue lately. the two buckets of IO i purchased were at different times, both from chewy if memory serves, so i'd assume if this is an IO wide thing others would be having issues
