Looking for a couple SE (mogul base) 250w bulbs. Apparently the brand new Hamilton bulbs that I bought from MD are duds, but need to make sure my brand ballasts and pendants are working. So if you have any used, working bulbs, let me know.

have you used hamilton bulbs b4 in your setup? what ballast are you using? for them to work you have to Use with ballast ANSI code M58 or 250w Electronic ballast. I dont think they fire on a HQI ballast(usually used on DE bulbs), but been a long time since looked at halide info. I would highly doubt both bulbs are dead.

where are you located? I'm by 405/110 and we could test things out. I have a 250 Mogul halide setup in storage that works with a working bulb (not a hamilton).

They are brand new Reef Brite 250w ballasts. Yeah, it would seem rather odd that both bulbs would be bad. They look in good order, nothing out of the ordinary, kinda weird. I reached out to Dave at Hamilton and Tullio. I might take them to Hamilton early next week if I have the time? I'm in the SFV, so it's a bit of a trek for me, but I don't have a choice. I can't imagine that they wouldn't fire with these ballasts and/or that these bulbs or ballasts are bad, especially being brand new?

That's pretty odd. I still need to check my 400w I got in that MD liquidation sale. Got me wondering if they are in good condition now?

My reefbrites fire the hammies so you should be good. That sucks man. I'm sure it'll get resolved but a bummer when a new piece of equipment doesn't work right off the bat.

Yeah, the bulbs look solid, so it’s a head scratcher for sure. Dave from Hamilton said I could stop by to check the bulbs, just gotta find some free time during week, which is kinda hard right now. I need to check the pendants and make sure the sockets are getting power. The pendants and ballasts look great as well, hopefully I’m doing something wrong, but I’ve used halides for years and never had an issue before.

Looks like a loose wire inside of the pendant. While checking the socket and plug with a multimeter, I discovered there was no connection on the negative end. The relief of the power cable was too long inside and it pulled out of the junction box. Whew!

No, they are crap. You need to give them to me for proper testing and disposal.

Man! That's trip. Are both pendants like that? Also, are the backside of those mogul bases sealed? I noticed mine have some type of clear sealant on the backside of the wiring. I was going to rotate my sockets to get the bulbs to face the correct way but didn't want to mess with it.

Yup, both pendants had a loose white wire. Yeah, the sockets are sealed, but there should be enough wire to rotate them. You may have to open them up and move the leads around in that direction though. Btw, I haven’t seen true 14k in such a long time, but it’s the perfect blend of blue/white. It will be interesting to see how my Kessil’s match them? Now I have to get my biology in order and get these puppies up.

Nice! Someone needs a slap on the hand in that factory :)

It is perfect. I held the a360we over the tank during the lighting swap and I think it's going to be pretty spot on. I think you're going to love that combo, I'll be looking out for when you do the swap.

I'm going to give F and L (8020) in San Diego a call and see how long it will take them to get the pieces I need for the canopy. Hopefully I can pick it up next week and get this going. I'm going to make some Loc Line mounts for the Kessil's to mount them in the corners, but need to order the 55 degree lenses soon. They'll be mounted about 14" high, angled in from the corners towards the center, so hopefully 4 will do the job nicely? I'm only going to run them as dusk/dawn, so they'll stay on 15 minutes after the halides come on and 15 minutes before they shut off. I'm thinking of starting with the halides for 3hrs at first, then add 15 minutes each week and see how every does?

Sounds like a solid plan.

I was planning on starting shorter on the MH and working up until I saw the polyp extension day one and realized there wasn't a need to acclimate them really. I was pretty intense on my radions though, so that was probably a contributing factor. I'm 2 hours xho on either side and I believe 7 hours on the MH. But the xho do run all day.

Nice! Yeah, I'll see what happens, I may go longer too? I'm hoping to run the halides for 6hrs max, so we'll see? I'm getting rid of some big colonies next week and need to chip off some hydroids here and there. So there's a lot that I have to do, just hope I have the time soon? Maybe once I get the big monti colony and the huge frogskin out of there, I'll actually have some nitrates again? Although, I'm still trying to figure out why my mag is 1660+ with no direct addition other the ARM/Reborn in the reactor. It may be food sourced?

Well I just swapped over to ARM, I'll let you know if my magnesium starts to trend upwards. Just from trying to raise mag in the past it takes SO much product to do it. That's a pretty weird one!

I just added ARM a while ago, but my mag has been elevated since June or July, so it's not the media. Once I'm finished with the ARM media, I'm going with DaStaCo or something similar that doesn't contain phosphates. I have plenty on tap with the amount of food I feed.

Got to love a good MH bulb. I ran 3x400 watt bulbs and 4x55 watt PC on the 150 gal tank in my Avitar. Those 400 watt Radium bulbs are the best bulbs I have ever used.
