Hello everyone im in need of some advice in picking out a new ro/di system I have narrowed it down to 2 systems first is the spectra-pure here is the system. http://www.marinedepot.com/SpectraP..._Systems-SpectraPure-SP12292-FIRORDNH-vi.html .the question with this system is that do i need to keep buying the premade filters for it or can i just refill them myself. Next is this bulkreef supply system.http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-6-stage-chloramines-deluxe-ro-di-system-75gpd.html now for this system i already have 2 di canisters from brs so i don't think i need the 2 extra canisters i would love some feed back on this as the water in my city is very dirty my sediment filter turns dark brown in just two months so its pretty bad also if there is another ro/di you guys have in mind please let me know thanks.

You can use generic refills for the spectrapure. Same with the brs rodi. You can always buy a cheaper unit and change out the ro membrane to a more efficient one, that is the heart of the unit

I hate to differ from the other guys, but the Vertex Aquaristic is the best. Yes it cost more, but the long term costs are the filters and the water. This unit saves on both. The spectrapure is a good unit and better than most, but still lacks an auto flush function and a booster pump. This how you get a unit less expensive by having less useful components on it.

Spectrapure is the best in the business bar none. Their 27 years of research and development pays off every time. Just because RO/DI units look the same does not make it so, there are major differences between systems and vendors. No other vendor specially treats and either batch tests or individually hand tests every RO membrane. No other vendor uses only absolute rated sediment filters which they have tested in house for years before offering for sale. No other vendor specially custom blends every ounce of their DI resins and offers reef specific blends such as SilicaBuster and MaxCap based on thousands of hours of bench and real world testing results. Only one other major vendor besides Spectrapure offers the much better capillary tube flow restrictors as standard equipment. The list goes on and on but it all adds up to longer component life, reduced cost of operation and ownership and better water quality for you the end user. There really is a difference.

Do you really honestly think that they really test every membrane individually if so then I have some beach front property in Arizona for sale. Now I'm not going to say that spectra pure isn't a great system but it isn't the best there are better. And even with the brs units sure they don't have the fancy name and stickers on the outside but they use quality filters and components. Their membranes are filmtec which is a great membrane. And that's really all that matters is the pre filters and the membranes.

As long as tds readings come out to 0 I don't really see an issue... it seems a lot of stuff in this industry is all marketing and packaging... for all we know Lot ofnthe components are most likely made in the same factory and just put into. Different box... that's just my .02 ... get what works not what looks good

I like my spectrapure but Kyle's right. In the end they're all just canisters and the filter's inside do all the work and I don't think any of them have something revolutionary. Also make sure not to get the TDS meters on the spectrapures wet. I did and had to replace it. I like Spectrapure's price and the GPH doesn't seem inflated.

I had a hand me down premier 15gpd unit that out out around 15tds converted it over to an rodi and bumped up the membrane and restrictor to a 60gpd unit and have never been happier. 0tds all day long mind you the actual body is pretty old just new internals... also if you have the 2 canisters from brs why not just run them as a prefilter before the actual unit.

I beoieve you can buy the spectra pure filter elements and add them before the actual unit making it like a 7 stage opposed to the usual 3 or 4. Or just add more prefilters and or carbon blocks
