How do you guys make your own fish food? I have read to soak it in selcon and freeze it in cubes. I bought some talapia fillets, a bag of frozen shrimp, bag of scallops, bag or squid, and a bag of clams. I have tried to cut them small enough for the fish to eat but they dont seem to really care for it. Is there any special technique or a certain type of fish to buy? I need to get this done before the wife gets home or else the above item will become human food lol!

I go to costco and get a sea food mix bag (uncooked).... It consists of clams, octopus, shrimp, etc....

then I put it in a blender with some Garlic Xtreme, selcon, mysis, silversides, krill, and some other stuff I can't remember...

I think I spent like $30 in total but you can make food that last probably 2yrs lol... I shouldn't have bought a big bag of seafood mix

Here's a good one from melev's http://www.melevsreef.com/food.html

I Got All The Same Ingredients And Threw It All In A Blender. In Theory It Works Well But My Blender Just Pureed It And When It Thaws And Is In The Tank It Just Turns To Like Dust. Some Pieces Are Substantial Enough To Be Eaten By The Fish But I Havent That Great Of Luck W It. Maybe I'll Attempt It Again. I Even Tried Grating The Frozen Pieces Of Food To Make It The Size Of Like A Mysis Shrimp. Didnt Work Too Well. It Can Be Super Economical If We Can Figure Out A Good Process To Make And Store It.

Maybe blend each piece just until it's the right size, then put it in a bowl and blend the next piece... if necessary do smaller "loads" in the blender so it doesn't have to blend so long, or use a food processor with the really fine grateing blade

don't auto blend it.. it'll just chop everything into fine gooey product..

what I do is i press the button manually in short bursts so it doesn't become yogurt lol

I borrowed this creation from another fellow reefer and have been using it for the past few months. It makes a mess during the preperation like the sweedish chef from the muppets, but the fish dig it.

ingredients used:
1 whole garlic
1/2 lb. fresh shrimp, squid and scallop
2 frozen packs of Hikari algae, mega angel and ocean plankton
1/2 cup formula 2 pellets and 1 cup of flakes
1/2 cup spectrum thera+ pellets by new life
15 grams whole freeze dried cyclop-eeze since out of frozen one
1 oz. garlic xtreme, 30ml Selcon, 4 oz. Zoecon and 2 oz. vita-chem

procedure for mixing ingredients together:
1. all frozen food Hikari cubes are soaked w/RO for an hour
2. fresh seafood are chopped and blended to almost paste form
3. add fresh seafood along w/Hikari products mix using spatula
4. add all pellets, cyclop-eeze and all liquid vitamins mix again
5. last item added flakes then carefully folding w/spatula but not breaking flakes into pieces
