Sorry I don’t have any value add on your current issues but man the tank looks awesome despite them.

All the fish look super healthy, the new phone pics look great.

thanks man! i am pretty happy with the fish list. although more is always nice lol, but if i can't get the nutrients down i just can't justify more

well it is what it is. the good part is montis are mostly cheap and replaceable and they grow fast anyway. it is what it is at this point, the hobby can't always go well right? :)

some of the corals seem fine and even growing, but some others are clearly struggling. Then some others are ugly but don’t seem to be totally dying so I guess I just gotta remove as much metals as I can and hope they turn around.

the plan is to remove metabsorb tomorrow or Monday and then send in an icp test and see what it says. Then somewhere along the way this month I’ll send in a triton test to see if I’m good to go, then try to get some new frags at the farmers market next month

my ats has been worthless lately growing this orange crap

so I cleaned it with a brush to clean out the orange stuff

I forgot a third pic but I tried to find what decent light green hair algae I could and smashed it into the screen. Going to increase photoperiod as well, maybe I’ll give it a short break halfway through and see if that does the trick

maybe algae hates heavy metals too :ROFLMAO:

I always ended up with that on my ATS also, some type of sponge or something. I haven't been able to grow macro algae or use an ATS in years for some reason I end up with a bunch of that and algae in the display :)

i had it going wellish, never had that really nice lush green hair algae growth, but it was growing green algae awhile back. then the pump died, it dried out, i had to clean the pump to get it working and start over with a new screen, and it just hasn't wanted to grow properly in months now

in the mean time i did acquire some nice turf algae in the display lol

in the future if i do a larger tank i'd love to do a nice big fuge. if nothing else they're more interesting to look at than a mailbox

i sent in another icp test

zinc is a fraction of what it was before, so that's good.. but it's still not 0. similar for other undesirable heavy metals that i'd love to be 0, but still aren't. i've done cuprisorb for like a week, then did metabsorb for like 3 weeks, and polyfilter for the last 2 or so weeks so..

other random stuff: icp says cobalt, iron, and manganese are all too low. no idea what benefit there is to them so f those, but i do have some iron i can maybe put in. but given i keep having to remove heavy metals i think i'll hold off

i have a triton test and triton detox on the way tomorrow, so i'll run the detox thing and see how that goes, then send in a triton test to see what it says. i'm a bit dubious on icp's ability to properly test shit at a ppb level, so we'll see what triton has to say

i'm also going on vacation for a week or so, so i'll see how that goes. my icecap battery backup seems to have died, so that's fun since it was like 3 months old. tbh coralvue products mostly seem to be garbage and i'll be avoiding them in the future save for a few brands. the hilarious nightmare of connecting my kamoer doser to my icecap dosing container has been a real treat. who knew connecting doser tubing to a dosing container could be so difficult

in the tank, unfortunately a lot of the corals in there have either died or gone way downhill, even hardy stuff like green slimer has dead spots hitting it. some corals seem to be tanking it ok like vivid rainbow, pc rainbow, aussie gold, but most others seem donezo

oddly enough the non acro sps really took it hard. montis are almost all dead. birdsnest all died. purple stylo is chugging along though, very odd

and to boot i now have acquired some turf algae. i've tried manual removal with a hard brush, but it's so short it doesn't do much. not sure what cuc/foxface is doing about it. the foxface is a lazy mfer and won't eat nori so idk what his deal is. he must listen to too much joe rogan meat only diet podcasts or something. i might have to get crazy and get a tang  or maybe i'll just get more hermits

Sorry to hear about all the loss. Sucks to hear. Try doing that magnet trick in the sand?
To see if any metals accidentally feel in
yeah I did that a day or so after you gave it to me, but nothing seemed to come up lol, probably doesn’t help the IM stands are magnetic so the entire thing felt magnetic and so just had to do it super slow to see if anything clinged to it

I think I just let the levels get too high and the metal removing ability of these products seems a bit overblown. I’ll probably put the metabsorb next to my return pump for a few more days I guess. I had it in a filter cup and it certainly removed a lot, but I don’t want any zinc

on the bright side my coral qt seems to be doing better although I went a bit hard in the paint with lanthanum and scored cyano, but acros don’t seem to slowly die in there anymore

The two granny frags you gave me are looking great

So if I can fix the damn water I at least have some cool stuff to toss in there lol

Nice pack! Whats that first enchinata looking piece?
red dragon

the pics are all when i had my reefbrite white only light on, so stuff is kinda washed out lol. it makes the tank too yellow to really enjoy, but i was being cheap wanting to add light without buying another light

i got the detox stuff and ran that for 3 days and then added a fresh bag of carbon a couple days ago. then did a big water change and changed out the polyfilter for a new one. i also sent in a triton test so hopefully i'll get the results of that as soon as i get home from vacation and i'll be rid of any damn metals

i added a few corals from the qt so we'll see how that goes. some were going downhill in there so might as well give it a shot. and some others i have multiples of so i take a chance on them

i tried messing with my battery backup and idk what the deal is, it works if i flip the switch off like a power outage, but when there was an actual power outage it didn't work  oh well, i guess my next big purchase will be an mp40 with an ecotech battery backup

i got back from cancun a few days ago, fish are all fine, corals eh.

i did a bit of snorkeling in cancun, saw some queen angels, juvie french, "dory" as the guide called the atlantic blue tangs lol. their reefs were pretty meh, but i did see some huge acro colonies

i sent in the triton test before i left and got those results

https://www.triton-lab.de/en/showroom/icp-oes/132629

copper is now in the green range of acceptable, zinc is 0

oddly enough despite running all these metal absorbers, tin has increased steadily from who knows where

triton says my iron is too high still, which is funny because the icp test i sent in said i was too low on iron lol

i'm gonna add what stuff i have in qt in the next couple weeks and i think chill for a bit. i've lost a ton of money in corals this year and i'm just over it. once i see the stuff that's in there thriving a bit i'll start adding more. plus my coral qt cyano got way worse while i was gone so i'll probably run chemiclean and/or turn the lights off for a bit. i also kinda got the urge lately to do a nem tank and that little 20g tank might be cool for that. but then i'd have to get a new coral qt/frag tank going..

the turf algae doesn't seem to be getting worse and it only seems to like certain rocks. if it gets large enough i can remove it manually, but i'm considering running brightwell razor to try to get rid of it. i generally avoid chemical treatments and prefer biological fixes or just time, but i'd rather just fix it than wait something new out
