I got a Melanaurus wrasse that is picking on my ornate leopard wrasse. For some reason he doesn't like that fish, but he's cool with all the other fish in my tank (no other wrasses). The melanaurus is slightly bigger and I have since then moved the Leopard to the refugium in my sump for safety. I'm trying to catch the melanaurus but he seems to be smart enough not to enter the trap I've put in the tank. Any suggestions that could reduce aggression or will i need to get rid of the melanaurus?

You could try introducing him in a acclimation box for a few weeks so he can get used to him being in the tank. If that doesn't work you can also put a mirror in the trap.

If you catch him ill take him. My 3 year old one died in my friends QT tank, super bummed when I saw him dead. So if you catch it ill take her or him. Mine must have been female cause she never bothered a soul.

I had a Melenarus that did the same thing. Beat up every new addition I put in the tank for days usually stressing and killing them. Beautiful fish but one I'm glad to be rid of.

Some people say change the rock work, well for most of us, thats not going to happen ! I had the same problem a while back, I put in a copperband butterfly, and my blonde naso tank went after him non stop. So what I did was take a piece of egg crate, kinda of wedged in into center of tank seperated the two. It doesn't have to be a perfect fit, just a big enough piece to be effective. Doing that changed everything. The naso attention was just focused on the egg crate giving the copperbabd time to settle in. Kept it in the tank about 10 hrs. and it solved everything.

I introduced a female melenarus into my 180g with my male that had already been established in there. He chased her for days and I thought he'd killed her but she was just hiding. They seem to have,a love hate relationship.....at times they get along great and then he gets agro again. Hmmm moodie male....what a change. These fish are truly gorgeous and the best solution for flat worm
