I now have a dilema. My wife was having none of me getting a tank, well she said a small one was ok. She was not all that thrilled with a 55gal but said ok. I wanted a 100-125 gal but that was out of the question. So now I have the 55 up and cycling and its just about finished and now my with is hooked. She now wants bigger:frusty: So now im pondering getting a bigger tank. My question to you is this what should I do. I am new to saltwater but i do know i want around 100 gal. should I upgrade now or should I wait and do it later after I get some time under my belt? Decisions, Decisions

Bigger tanks also mean bigger equipment & more money...maybe you should enjoy the 55 for now & upgrade later as you go & learn more :top:

Is the 55 sitting in the same place you would want the 100? If so thats a HUGE reason to upgrade NOW. If not, by the time you setup the 55 and get it stocked and just how you want it, the later upgrade is gonna suck!! Better to get what you want now. You can shop around and get great prices on used equipment for a 100 all day long. I am just adding my 2cents......."been there and done that" applies here. Keep in mind, with a family and a house full of furniture, its kinda hard to find another perfect spot for a large tank. If your wife is open to the idea now, she probably wont be when you tell her that her furniture has to be moved to make room for it ;)

The new tank would go in the same spot as the 55. its a perfect spot living room/ kitchen area with large wall. Anybody have a 100-125 with stand they want to get rid of cheap.

Biggest you can afford and fit.

Doesn't look sweet when the house is smothered by a big tank. I got 225g after my 90 gallon and I would not go bigger unless I bought a 3000+ sq ft home.

I do regret not going low with my tank, partially in wall and making it a lounge area with short crocodile wrapped couches. I do have a sushi counter slash bar area to enjoy the tank.

go to the equipment for sale threads..there's a handful of tanks . plus, considering alot of us are obsessive reefers and rat-pack equipment.. i'm sure you'll find alot of cheaper hand-me-downs of whatever equipment you may need, just ask.....

I bought my skimmer and power heads used for 1/2 of the price. I paid 2,000$ for all my stuff, new I would have paid 3900$ plus tax.

Good Wifey!

Hey, def go with the biggest, baddest tank you can get. Most of us have learned this the hard way. Trust ALL of us here, if you settle now you'll pay later. Hey, I have a 90gal acrylic 48x18x24 with cherry wood stand and canopy (no scratches) that will be FS in about 2-3 weeks. PM me if you want some pix. My new tank is being made right now so all my livestock is still in my current 90 until I can do the transfer. GL!
